If you’re hungry for a remote vacation in a stunning Scottish Highland, Durness is your perfect destination. Check out the seawater cum freshwater marvel of Smoo Cave, which features a waterfall and active marine life, including porpoises and seals. The northern sand dunes are a whirlwind of puffin activity. Durness was of particular significance to John Lennon, and supposedly inspired the Beatles song "In My Life."

I have been here on a few occasions, and it never fails to fill my heart with its beauty.
If you are visiting top North of Scotland, this really is a place to visit, but please try and spend some time here, go for a long walk on the Beaches, they are beautiful from the road side, but getting down there and experiencing them, well you will never forget them.

Like many north western Beaches, this was superb. The funds were fantastic and we had a wonderful time walking the beach and dunes. Would love to go back.

Had to have a walk on this beautiful beach whilst on our NC500 tour. I can quite see why John Lennon must have been inspired to write a song about this area.

Northwest tip of Scotland.
This is an amazing experience must be done. John is a great ferryman. Stuart was our driver and a real charecter very knowledgeable and full of fun he stopped for photos to be taken, the drive to the lighthouse is an experience, wonderful scenery, and wildlife,it's just awesome. Do it and enjoy.

After travelling for many miles on a single track road we finally reached our destination. The countryside and the views were breathtaking. To reach the cave you have to go down a stairway which can be quite steep in places, but is well worth the journey. Inside the cave is a waterfall. On the day we visited there had been quite a lot of rain earlier in the week which meant the waterfall was raging and filling the cave with its spray. I would recommend wearing waterproofs. If the waterfall is much gentler it is possible to take a small boat trip into the next cave at a cost of £5. There is plenty of information on the boards surrounding the parking area and you can cross the road and stand on a small bridge and watch the river entering the caves. It was ferocious on the day we visited. Quite amazing!

Has that strange appearance of resembling a Caribbean beach (near white sand and blue / green sea) yet being in the North of Scotland !

A gorgeous walk with our Labrador. The water colour and small waves made the beach look tropical despite a fresh wind and a misty drizzle. Our lab loved playing in the small waves. Rocks were lovely in shape with interesting pools around the bases. Interesting sand "waterfalls" coming down onto the beach.

This is a great stop between Durness and Tongue. A nice shop displays pottery and sculptures for sale. The highlight is walking around the property and experiencing the sculptures scattered everywhere. Interesting and unique sculptures in natural settings. Stop here!

Golfers at this remote course face challenging hilly terrain, but are rewarded with a picturesque setting.
Wow - the condition of the course and greens is superb, - it was hard to concentrate on my game because the views wherever you are on the course are wonderful. Each hole was a unique challenge - one hole played around a loch, and the final hole over the ocean. Apart from the temperature, I could have been on the Caribean with views across a stunning beach and bay. It may be a long way to get here but well worth the trip - hope to return soon.

This rather curious set up houses a collection of slightly 'old hippie-ish' craft shops with paintings, pottery and other arty-crafty things along with a restaurant and a famous chocolate shop. Parking is a little tricky if it's busy but it's a quite interesting place to visit
