If you’re hungry for a remote vacation in a stunning Scottish Highland, Durness is your perfect destination. Check out the seawater cum freshwater marvel of Smoo Cave, which features a waterfall and active marine life, including porpoises and seals. The northern sand dunes are a whirlwind of puffin activity. Durness was of particular significance to John Lennon, and supposedly inspired the Beatles song "In My Life."

A happy place, where people come to relax and enjoy themselves - surrounded by stunning landscapes. We are a working artisan chocolatier, producing our completely unique range of truffles, chocolates, and chocolate shards, each day - in our cafe/shop and for our popular online store. In our cafe, we produce and serve our range of chocolates, we serve our famous 'best' Hot Chocolate, Mocha, coffees, teas, and...other treats. Walk inside and breathe in the aromas! We use the finest ingredients, often (as in our triple certified coffees), fair-trade and organic, but really, it's all about the taste - a little taste of heaven!
Whilst in the Northwest coast of Scotland we decided to visit Durness & CM. We were hugely disappointed with both Durness and CM. Whilst the approaching drive to here is stunning, Durness did not appear to have any welcoming redeeming features like many of the other places we have encountered. It looked as though it had seen better days.
CM was expensive and not the best hot drinks/chocolates or setting we have visited either. I would not class this as a restaurant either - at best its a café/porta cabin.
We wont be making any return to either.

The Oasis is directly next to the campsite, and offers fairly typical pub-style food in a fairly typical pub-style atmosphere. Everything we had was tasty if unspectacular. What really impressed us was the service. Basically, the place fills up with hungry campers at precisely 6 o'clock, when it opens in the evening, which is a challenge which the staff and kitchen seemed to meet flawlessly - the service (from Martin) was warm, helpful and attentive and the food arrived very quickl.

On main east road out of Durness
On visiting Durness for first Tim in 38 years, was disappointed to find every where shut till we came across this place certainly takes one back a bit, fell down step into ladies only to find sign on back of door when you close it saying please mind step!. We had soup and toasted Sandwich and tea and coffee, you just have to watch the pricing at the end as the soup and Sandwich were together but she was trying to price them separately perhaps she just had a bad day it was very quiet.

We ate dinner at Smoo Cave Hotel on two nights whilst traveling the NC500 as were staying at the B&B next door. The staff (and locals) were very friendly and the bar had a pool table and dart board to entertain visitors.
The food was great - the chilli was especially good and the steak! The bar had a good selection of gin. Service was quick and with a smile and it was good value. There were daily specials available -eg. local crab.
Excellent bar and great grub!

The Whale Tale is a wee cosy Café and Restaurant in the Craft Village, on the North coast of Scotland.
We dined here on a Sunday evening.
I ordered the mackerel mousse and my husband had the pea soup, both served with lovely fresh bread.
Both starters equally tasty.
I then had the Salmon and my husband had couscous dish.
I finished with a desert of homemade lemon ice cream.
So delicious!
This restaurant is rustic, quirky and it's surroundings are awesome!
What more could one ask for.
Would certainly visit again.
