Spent here almost an entire day with family. We wanted to swim, have a picnic and spend a good quality time.
The site has amazing views, space to park your car, space to relax, explore the area, sand football field, a bar and even some stone tables to have a picnic.
Great way to spend out the day with your family or friends.
A fee can be charged during certain months of the year (like August).

The Sanctuary and steps are both historical landmarks and a holy place where some visitors seek healing. The steps provide unique photo opportunities because of the views from above and below, and they are inviting for both energetic (walking up) and leisurely (walking down) visitors with receding views of the sanctuary and of azulejo murals at the various levels.
The bottom of the stairs is located in the built-up historical area, so it is easy to find a restaurant, convenient bathroom, or souvenir store. The sanctuary and adjacent buildings hold several local icons including a breastfeeding Madonna and portraits of the entrepreneurs who helped establish the port wine business in the Douro Valley. The sanctuary and steps are free, and they are well worth a visit.

The little village “aldeia de Pena” where al the houses are in “Slate” is about a 20km from São Pedro do Sul (Viseu) hided into a deep vally of the “Serra da Serra de São Macário”. You will drive on a narrow road, for the once who are not used to drive on this roads, be very carefull, certainly because this is the only road to drive to and to leave the village. You cannot drive with the car into the village, you have a small place on the entrance and from there you have to walk. This location is especially for Nature and Mountain Lovers, and is considered one of the most beautiful Lime Stone villages of Portugal.
Nice to visit, but drive very careful on the narrow road.

Aldeia Típica do Fujaco.
Is also a very small and typical Portuguese village, you can visit this on the way back after you have visited the “Aldeia da Pena”. To get there it is the same as the other village, very narrow road with allot of curves, so please drive again very careful, as again it is the only road into and out of the village located in the Serra da Arada who has suffered allot of the fires during this summer. You can compare it with Aldeia da Pena a bit different, but also need to visit.
