Buriram (Thai: บุรีรัมย์, RTGS: Buri Ram, pronounced [bū.rīː rām]; Northern Khmer: มืฺงแปะ, pronounced [mɤːŋ.pɛʔ]) is one of the northeastern provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from south clockwise) Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, and Surin. To the southeast it borders Oddar Meancheay of Cambodia. This historical park contains some of the country's most extensive Khmer ruins.
We traveled from Bangkok exclusively to see this site. It was a very long journey(about 450 kms), but a definitely worthwhile one.Even after having seen Angkor Wat, one cannot help but being enthralled by what is certainly the most beautiful Khmer monument in Thailand (dating from the pre-Angkor era). It is remarkably well preserved. From the moment you enter the processional walkway. you cannot help but being amazed by the beauty and sheer size of this temple. In short, it was a memorable and highly recommended visit. However, bear in mind that climbing the stairs is not easy.

This was along with Phnom Rung was our main reason for visiting Buriram and we weren’t disappointed, what a place. About a 1000 years old and dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu. The stonemasons who constructed this place were exceptional, the artistry and beauty of the carving is as good as I’ve ever seen anywhere. I would recommend a visit to this place but if you’re not very able bodied you might find it a bit tricky here and there, the steps are quite steep in places.

Home of Buriram United one of the top Thai Premier league club. The stadium with more than 30,000 seats, very well maintained ground with facilities similar to stadium in Europe. Though Buriram city has only around 40000 population. Buriram UTD has a nation wide fans. So, if you plan to come to the big match make sure that you have reserved seats and booked accommodation.

Overlooking Buriram city - there is a steep very long set of stairs up the hill or a nice small concrete road.
In these temperatures I choose the second possibility - good view and a snack and drink kiosk on top.
Big Buddha image - statue and a hanging bridge on the way for small thrill seekers.

awesome statue of the first king on his elephant , is situated on the busiest intersection (roundabout) in town where when driving it is everyman for himself. it is controlled by traffic lights but stopping is at the discretion of the driver. every wednesday there is a worship by vip dignitaries who block off half the roundabout which makes it more fun to negotiate. rule 1 for driving on the roundabout, close your eyes and hope for the best

If you search the Wat Pa Khao Noi on the internet, you will not find much information about when it was built, why it was built or if there are any special purpose behind the construction or location. And you will not find much information in site either, at least not in a language other than Thai. The temple appears to be a relatively new building, so far in approximately Khmer style, but with clearer Buddhist symbols. However, it may appear that there are used elements of ancient volcanic stone for construction. There is no Buddha figure, but there are a sculpture of a probably highly regarded monk. The temple is probably acquired this monk. Outside the building has many fine details, and the surroundings are nicely landscaped. It was very quiet when we visited the place, but the temple is evidently in active use, because there were several houses for monks and nuns in the surroundings. If one day you have nothing else to do in Buriram, make a trip here and search tranquility.

Also called "walking street" - central location in town offers a mix of great local food, clothing, souvenirs and live music. Really good atmosphere and well worth a visit - much more choice than some of the other night markets I've been to in Thailand. Very relaxed and nobody 'bugging' you to buy this and that because you're a foreigner. A lot of Buriram-themed clothing for sale so you can take the brand with you when you go home.

Wat Khao Angkhan Temple has all the ingredients for success since it incorporated various religious Buddhist images from different ages. The site itself is also compact with various interesting areas to explore. There are even English text written on the temple walls. However with the isolated location and the lack of direction for the general public, the site is rather difficult to reach. Even with our navigation system, we had to stop and asked the local for direction. There are few dogs to confront with when visit the place. They simply bark and nothing more. Allow 60 minute minimum for exploring the site.

This place is a resort plus adventure ground which kids would like. From Buriram it is about 30kms plus to the north. The activities are quite simple and our young kids enjoyed feeding the sheep, rock climbing and walking through the flora show. There was also a restaurant which seemed quite popular but we didn't get the chance to try it out. Not a great attraction but ok to pass time outdoors if you have young kids.
