Just the right size, stunning interiors and well illustrates the layers of culture and history here. Easy to imagine the cultured nun pouring her heart out in passionate letters in the giddily decorated interiors of the convent. If you visit this museum, you can happily spend the rest of your stay by the lovely Pestana Pousada pool.

A good way of keeping Roman Beja alive (under a glass floor). Written explanations were good and there is a further display about Outeira do Circo, a late bronze age settlement near Mombeja to the north west of Beja.

Early C6 Visigothic church with carvings and columns in an excellent state of repair (one of only 4 pre-Romanesque.left in Portugal). Luckily we were staying in Beja long enough to await the reopening of the church (closed due to the ill health of a member of staff).

Well kept, calm, some nice statues, but much more like a local garden in a small village. There is a small site for birds and small animals showing, not relevant.

This was a little confusing to find but we were glad we persevered.
The welcome on arrival was genuinely enthusiastic, as if grateful for our interest. The lovely lady at the reception area gave us maps and leaflets to aid our visit, then told us the Museu Jorge Vieira was free.
Upstairs we went, to two small rooms housing the entire collection. And what a collection, perhaps twenty pieces, each one worth inspection. We loved it and, depending on taste, you might not, but check it yourselves. A great artist spanning the late 20th century to the early 21st.

Alhoewel de voorgevel het niet laar vermoeden is de kerk binnen heel mooi. Er mogen echter geen foto's genomen worden. Spijtig.

Established in 2002, and the result of a passion for earth products, this company represents an investment which seeks to provide a direct contact with the best that is produced in Alentejo. Combining unique and clearly distinctive characteristics from other players in this sector, the Santa Vitória offers great wines, a well thought out range of regional cuisine and several leisure activities available to the general public. All of this, in a mainly rural environment, in the middle of Alentejo. Visitors can see the entire production and taste the wines, enjoying the modern facilities and the cellar. They can also visit the Santa Vitória, which has 127 hectares of vineyards and 150 hectares of olive groves. Santa Vitória is proud to integrate the most advanced winemaking technologies with the benefits of traditional techniques, preserving, for example, a wine pressing mill for pressing the grapes by foot and a manual harvest.
The winery is small but worth a visit. There are guided tours and you end up trying the wine. It's worth a visit.

Bairro da Mouraria is een leuke wijk om doorheen te slenteren , altijd leuk om door de plaatselijke straatjes te lopen en te zien hoe de mensen hier leven.

From photos and printed matter dotted about other sites in Beja, one gets the idea that this site might, indeed, be a very good place to visit. Currently they are CLOSED.
