Strojer Samlingen

Reviewed By GwBasse - Nordby, Denmark

I have been there several times, always an exciting experience.
I can recommend to attend one of the evenings when the owner himself is telling about the cars.
And showing around on the factory, which is fabricating bricks.
The collection is placed in very nice surroundings, and sometimes there is a special exhibition.
Look out for the evenings when Mr.Strojer is telling and showing around.

Værd at besøge - man kan benytte en trampesti rundt om søen og komme frem til møllen - godt at kunne strække benene på et pitstop og får en naturoplevelse med på vejen.

Denmark’s Bird zoo, Frydenlund Fuglepark, is an idyllic zoo at Funen. The zoo is almost 5 hectare and the paths, which will lead you around in the park, are 2 km. In the park you can see 800 birds from all over the world, old trees and a lovely garden. You can experience many kinds of birds for example, storks, ostriches, parrots, ibises, ducks and owls. An exciting collection of old farmer instruments are shown in the park. You can enjoy a picnic in the park or use the cafeteria. The cafeteria, The Parrot Café, is famous for the cake, Kringle. Beside the coffee and Kringle the café offer fast food, frites and burgers. The Parrot Café is available for parties you just have to make a reservation. Behind the café there is a lovely porch and a playground for the kids.

My wife and I enjoy a pleasant stay in Glamsbjerg, and hoped to be able to visit the FugleZoo on the way back from Odense. Unfortunately, they suddenly decided to close down one hour earlier, without notification on the website or in their brochure. They could have offered us a reduced price for the half hour we had left, but nothing of that. So you might double check the opening hours before you go

We were staying for the second time on the Helnæs island. Fortunately we saw better weather conditions than upon our first trip. We took a stroll in the small village and visited the church. It is the typical type of Danish church. We couldn't enter when we visited unfortunately.

The Flax Weaving Museum

The museum is a working museum, where a number of voluntary people meet some mornings a week to weave, work in the sowing room, repair and maintain the looms, start up new activities etc. Everything to make it possible to show a living and attractive museum to the public, but also to contribute to the history of this old handicraft, which was later industrialised, so that it can be preserved for the future. During the opening hours the looms are not running because the old looms are very noisy, but all visitors are offered a guided tour where a jacquard power-loom is demonstrated. The museum was established in the years 1993-1995 after Kurt Reindel, the owner of the closed Tommerup Weaving Mill, had donated the power-looms of the mill and their accessories. Most of the looms are from the 1930s when his father Edmund Reindel started the weaving mill. Exhibitions, cafe and shop have been established in the former cow house of Krengerup which used to hold 100 dairy cows. This building was constructed about 1860. The working museum, the Weaving Hall, has been established in a new cow house that used to hold heifers. The restoration and furnishing of the old cow-houses of Krengerup was made possible through a number of funds and donations. May: Weekends and public holidays from 13 to 17 June July August: Every day except Monday 13 to 17, Monday closed September: Weekends and public holidays from 13 to 17 Week 42: All days from 13 to 17 From October 1st to April 30th the museum is closed except for groups with appointments (Tel. +45 6472 2825).

This small museum is off the beaten track. It provides an experiential view of the history of the accomplished Danish weavers. Knowledgeable guides, able to speak different languages, take you from older hand looms to amazing mechanized looms of the 19th century. You get to see everything actually working and can try your hand out at a number of machines. The textiles produced are varied and beautiful. There is a small shop that sells items the volunteers make on the machines. I highly recommend it for people with interest in technology or handicrafts and for children
