We had one day in Angouleme and having read Trip Advisor reviews, decided to visit this Museum (located at the back of the town's Cathedral) - what a surprise! It is not a large museum but the displays and art and special exhibits are excellent. We started our visit on the ground floor - the archeological wing - and were blown away by the dinosaur bones, the fossils, and other bones and neanderthal bones and teeth and tools. The displays were beautifully set and lighted perfectly and every room included information cards in a variety of languages (and of course for a few Euros one could also rent an audio-guide in your preferred language). We also visited the top floor (belles artes) and the middle floor - artifacts from the native populations of Oceania, the Maghreb and Africa. Well worth a visit if you are in Angouleme for a brief time.

Whilst staying in Angouleme, I arranged a visit to the distillery for myself and a group of US chums who were visiting the region for the first time. Their knowledge of Brandy was limited, but after the visit was concluded they confirmed that they thoroughly...MoreThank you for your testimony. We look forward to welcoming you again. Cordially.

This Roman Cathedral has an intricate facade of Roman sculptures that includes scenes of medieval battles.
This unusual and beautiful feature unfortunately attracted would be restorers from the mid XIXth century that then added towers, cupolas and so on.
The interior of the church looks brand new !

Nautilis is situated just outside of Angouleme and is well sign- posted.
There are a good range of attractions inside - the key ones being the large flume, the wave machine and the rapids. The pool and surrounding areas are clean and very well staffed, with attentive life guards who control all visitors well, making sure noone is behaving in an inappropriate manner.
My children, aged 7 and 10 absolutely love Nautilis - we went last year too - and happily spend several hours making the most of all the facilities.
The cafe bar outside is reasonably priced and serves a good range of soft drinks and snacks - the frites were a hit with us.
If you are in the area, Nautilis is definitely worth a visit.

Found after some local insider information. More like a shop plus bar which means that you can test beers and then buy. The bar has a good selection of beers which includes seasonal beers and specials from tap and bottles. The food is limited to dried sausages but with the selection of beers it works well. Tables are cable drums and chairs are upturned crates so don't expect 5* Seating. The 5* go for the beers. Only issue was the 20:30 closing but it is a good starter before going down town. Will visit again.

Altijd weer heerlijk door een grote supermarkt als Geant te lopen en te genieten van de vele verse producten of het nou vlees of vis is of groenten. Ook het bier- en wijnassortiment is overweldigend met redelijke prijzen.

Situated in an old mill on the Charente River, Musee du Papier is the history of Angouleme's financial power as a dominant maker of paper through the mid 20th century. There's a section that shows how the mill was constructed and paper was made, how the factory took over that section of the city and many advertisements and products produced over the past 100 years in the area. It's an easy walk from the town centre and a five minute walk across the river from the Comics Museum. Both are worth seeing if you are in this area!
