So good was our experience the last time that my wife and I went back for the 19.50 euros set lunch (no choice but menu is on display outside). We started with a feta and chorizo salad. I thought it would be boring. Far from it; I cleaned every drop of the place with the excellent bread provided! The main course was a slightly oriental spiced pork cut (a bit like a flattened fillet). It sat on a melange of peas, asparagus and broad beans. Stunning and so full of flavour (and very tender). The desert was strawberries, cream and a wonderful sauce. Every mouthful of every course was a delight.
What more could you ask?
Will I go again? Try and stop me.

Authentic Italian dishes. Family owned, nice ambiance, especially with the waiters running up and down the stairs to the kitchen. Good food, plenty of choice. But if you want Pizza, you'll need to go to the Pizzeria in the same street apparently from the same owners.
I recommend to make a reservation. We were lucky to find two places, and shortly after the whole place was crowded. And when you taste the food you know why.

We had one evening in Angouleme and the reception at the Mercure Hotel suggested La Ruelle when we asked for 'fine dining'. We arrived at the beginning of the dinner hour (7:30p) and chose the six-plate tasting menu (with the accompanying wines). The aperitif was a kir-sparkling white wine with four small "bites" (tiny shrimp spring roll, parmesan cracker with tomato, etc.). Our six-plate tasting meal included fois, scallops, a varied squash dish, a plate with duck, a cheese plate (a goat cheese foam with pear sorbet inside, awesome), and a dessert. The wines were paired perfectly, including an occasional surprise (at one point we were poured a white burgundy that didn't seem right and yet it paired splendidly).
This is not the place for a quick dinner - it is a place to savor and take your time and enjoy your meal at a deeper level...every detail matters at La Ruelle. The bread was fresh and perfect and came with two kinds of fresh butter (that were on a huge block of wood in the corner of the dining room - two enormous cones of butter that were shaved for each table per request), the utensils and the glasses of wine appeared and disappeared without our noticing. This was the absolutely perfect place to introduce my husband to his first french meal. Magnifique!!!

We went, unusually having looked on TripAdvisor before deciding. Positive reviews may have raised our expectations .... whatever they were not met. Food very average, service poor, price not proportionate. Overall disappointment.

Who would know such a splendid restaurant nestles next to a lake surrounded by superb lush green hills just just two miles from the centre Angouleme.
We dined on a Terrace overlooking the lake, shaded from the bright spring sun. Champagne apperitives, great food and unhurried service. a day to cherish.
For that special ocassion I would heartily recommend the Domaine du Chatelard. This is not everday eating but a chance to make and ordinary day sublime.

we did not know that it was a Japanese style restaurant. The restaurant has a good, stylish andclean interiour. There is enough choice on teh menu. We had some different Japanese style dishes and all of them were very nice. The price is very good for the quality wich they served. very well located in the center of Angouleme

Delicious, refreshing, beautiful, attentive and thoughtful. There is no Japanese food at this creperie, but everything is truly Japanese at heart. I miss Japan very much where eating out is not only good, rather balance and healthy, but also affordable by far. Finally I found it at Chez Koji at Santa Fe.
Seemingly light to the eye at first but very satisfying by the end. For 11 euros set menu: tomato and emmental galette with either egg, saussage or ham, then dessert either crepe or pancake or ice cream, plus coffee or hot chocolate fait maison. And some more mikan.
Just out of the door, I found myself already thinking of which to try on the next visit. Will definitely come back. Thank you very much for the wonderful meal!

We booked for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, which happened to be my birthday.
We were seated outside facing the beautiful church.
We had the lunch menu which was very reasonably priced.
The appetizer was a goat cheese panna cotta which was incredible.
The main course was a house made lasagne which was terrific, well seasoned and try sauce was excellent.
For dessert, chocolate tart. Absolutely decadent and rich but not overwhelming.
The service was great throughout and the staff didn't keep us waiting at any point nor did we ever have an empty glass.
For value for money, quality of food and service, this place meets all expectations.
An absolute must when visiting this gorgeous town.

Never been here before but after all the good reviews thought we'd try it. Not disappointed at all.
Limited menu of only about 3 starters and 3 mains but cater for most tastes including vegetarian.
The mozzarella charcuterie starter was really good and our veal mains was excellent. Good desserts too and a very good choice of wines.
Service was excellent and all the waiting staff were more than happy to rescue me from getting bogged down in my bad french. Would recommend you book on a fri/sat night as not a big restaurant. Very enjoyable evening.
