It's true that the place looks like it could be refurbished but it's poor construction is what gives its magic.
It's basically a set of wooden walkways over the water with wooden shacks for fisherman. Nevertheless it's the trip going there specially if one stayed at the beach of Comporta or nearby.
If possible, stay there for the sunset. The walkway has a specific design that puts its dead ends towards the sunset.

Costs €1.50 to enter, you get a short movie telling the history and a self-guided tour through a well-labelled excavation site. Not a big site; plan to spend 30-60 minutes on this.
Walls, artifacts, wells, religious symbols - ranging from iron age, through Roman, Muslim and medieval periods.
Highly recommended - don't miss this if you are in the area.

The castle itself fell into serious disrepair before being restored into a pousada, so there isn't a ton to see of it. Some walls that you can walk along (inside and outside the castle), really.
The highlight is the little museum and self-guided tour of a fantastic archaeological site *under* the castle. Costs €1.50 and takes 30-60 minutes. Well worth the visit!

Once you have ended your visit of the Crypt, you can walk in front in the direction of the church, called the “Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo” at about 100 meters from the crypt, when we were there she was closed, but anyhow you can see it on the outsider and also enjoy the archaeological zone you pass by walking to the church.
The church dates from the 12th century, and has being classified as Monument of Public Interest in the year 1951.
So here end our visit to the village of Alcacer do Sal, hope you have enjoyed it.

All’interno un altare abbastanza particolare.
