A town of Art and HistoryMedieval city of ConflansTo enter Conflans by the “Porte de Savoie” is to enter into history. Streets and alleways have stayed the same as the time of the Green Count, Amédée VI, count of Savoy. On the Roman road from Milan to Vienna via the Petit Saint Bernard pass, Conflans witnessed the passage of merchants, peddlers, and pilgrims.Today, Conflans welcomes you all year round in its maze of narrow streets, on its shady terraces full of flowers, and in its colourful boutiques.
We visited this charming medieval village 19/4/17.There is currently extensive excavating and digging going on to resurface the whole of the square.Anyone with mobility difficulties or if you have small children it would be best to visit when all the work is finished as it is very hard going underfoot. We parked in the allocated car park as only residents are allowed beyond this point.I walk with a mobility aid and was on the point of admitting defeat when a lovely couple of residents stopped and offered me a lift, which I gratefully accepted! There is a pretty little church to visit as well as a couple of shops, cafés and restaurant. We spent some time in the little museum €4 each with guide and audio tape. The museum is housed in the only red brick house and displays over several floors(no lift). The staff were very friendly and helpful and there is a toilet upstairs. The museum also has a small shop selling postcards and some local hand made crafts. The views are well worth the climb! We will certainly visit again when the building work is finished.Despite the construction work we had a very pleasant visit to this medieval city which is steeped in history. The residents we met made us feel very welcome and my heartfelt thanks to the couple that gave me a lift!

the acrofort at fort de tamie was a favorite for our kids (Ages 8-17). Several options for level of difficulty and a kiddie area for the little ones with a mini ropes course, bounce houses and a pool. The gift shop has lots of local products and the ice cream bar is delicious! great way to spend a day with the entire family.

Just a short drive from Faverges is this ancient monastary with an interesting history. Is is set in a pristine part of the French Alps and Trappist monks still live and work there.
They produce a gorgeous soft cheese, named after the Abbaye and this, as well as other fine produce, can be purchased from the modern store at the entrance to the grounds.
This was the location used for the award winning movie 'Of Gods and Men'.
We visited the Abbaye today. Our visit was unplanned so we hadn't any idea of what to expect. The monks live in seclusion and the doors and gates were locked. There was a monk talking to someone near an entrance and I suppose we could have waited to ask him questions, but we walked back down the driveway to the shop and made some purchases.
Now we are back on the internet I can see that the monks welcome those seeking a retreat and have a guest house for that purpose. I think that would be heaven.

Discover the Savoie and beautiful environment by moving in a fun and "green" with the Segway. The company Rollin 'Mountain franchisee Albertville - Tarentaise takes you through the paths of Savoy a fun, playful and ecological. Through an easy grip, there is more to follow guide. Evasion and unforgettable sensations guaranteed.
Was not convinced when my teenage sons wanted to go on an off road Segway adventure. It turned out to be great fun. Fantastic views and lots of laughs.
The guys who run the Segway operation were friends and spoke excellent English if you needed it.
I would go again!

A short drive from the base of Lake Annecy, La Sambuy provides manageable walking opportunities, good views (weather permitting), alpine meadows, and a luge (very popular with the teenagers in our group). You can purchase a combined ticket for the chairlift and one activity (luge or trampoline). There are also a couple of restaurants/bars at the base of the lift (where the luge and trampolines are located). The lady in the ticket office was very helpful and gave us a map of the mountain. At the top of the chairlift there are three different walks to choose from - we chose the walk to the goat farm (where we bought some cheese) which took about an hour and 20 minutes. The weather wasn't great but you can borrow waterproof coats from the chair lift base which was a very thoughtful accommodation. There's a small hut selling drinks and snacks at the top too. All in all a very enjoyable outing.

At a stone throw away from Mont-Blanc Les Saisies is a beautiful family resort. Our village is located at 1650m in Savoie Mont-Blanc. In winter you can ski on Espace Diamant which is 192km of slopes, or enjoy cross country on a wonderful area of 120km or even walk on our pedestrian and snowshoe tracks. In summer you will find here everything you need: lots of activities, great sceneries, gastronomy, French way of life... Here you will find amazing other activities: mountain twister, snowmobile, snow groomer outings or drive, dog sledging, Mountain biking, fat biking, sports center with swimming pool, bowling, paragliding, adventure park, mountainboarding, wellness, horse riding, game park, events, entertainments... for all the family from Grandparents to children. Beaufortain is an authentic, preserved and breathtaking country. Here, in Les Saisies, everybody speak English but we keep our Savoy accent.
This is our second visit to Les Saisies & love it. The walking is fabulous with mountain restaurant access together with Kms of cross country skiing. Downhill maybe a tad to 'safe' for those black run demons however, I love the wide sweeping runs inbetween the trees. We've just had plenty of snow followed by a beautiful blue sky day so what more could we ask. The Signal building offers a swimming pool & bowling alley. The town offers lovely shops, restaurants, spa & a market.
