We were directed here by our B&B hostess. This is another reason to stay in B&Bs. The hostess knew the area, and we only detoured off our planned route a few miles and saw two WONDERFUL places. The Swiss Cottage is one of those places.
It was built by the owners of the nearby Cahir Castle, who wanted a place to go and "pretend" to be poor! The story is amazing. Pictures inside the house are not allowed, but the exterior is breathtaking. It was made to look as if it was growing out of the ground. If you are near Cahir, be sure to visit!

St Patrick's Well is located near Clonmel a short distance south of the main Clonmel, Cahir road. It is an old religious site situated in a sheltered glen where a large volume of spring water continuously wells up from underground. The church was built in the seventeenth century, but there are traces of an even older building. Inside the walls is the tomb of Nicholas White of Clonmel who died in 1622. At the centre of the small lake is a weathered Celtic Cross which dates from early Christian times in Ireland.

Didnt know what to expect a stunning peaceful spot hidden away amongst the verdant greenery. The bubbling reflecting pond is memorising, we had the place to ourselves, some people were arriving for a christening as we left.

A magical place nestled among mature trees just a little way from Cahir in County Tipperary.
Glengarra Lodge is an amazing place which when fully restored will be the perfect place for an intimate wedding art weekend, Exhibitions of various types, Concerts etc. Burncourt Community Council are doing tremendous work raising funds to bring the Lodge back to its original beautiful state.

Welcome to The Craft Granary, a beautifully restored 19th Century grain store, located in Church St. Cahir, Co Tipperary. It acts as a showcase for quality handcrafted items from the South East of Ireland. Our craft centre features pottery, glassware, woodturning, occasional furniture, photography, fashion accessories, soft furnishings, handmade cards, jewellery, childrens toys with a celtic twist and local food products. We are members of the Craft Council of Ireland so all our products are unique and meet a high standard of craftsmanship. A Gallery on the 1st floor features Exhibitions by local artists and sculptors and entry is free of charge.

We had earlier spoken with a very informative woman at the Cahir Tourist Office and she sent us on a walk around the town which was very interesting. We visited the Mall with Georgian homes and the massive stone and iron train viaduct built in the 1850's and also got great views of Cahir Castle and the River Suir. After leaving the river side we viewed several churches from the outside and the railway station, then walked the 2km path through the woods from Cahir Castle to Swiss Cottage. Swiss Cottage is not to be missed! There is plenty of two hour parking for cars in the town if you want to walk and do the tour or you can drive to it via a different route.

WH Irwins was ext. in 1890, a Traditional Pub with an abundance of old world charm located in the heart of Cahir town on The Square.

What a fantastic tradirtional irish pub, everyone is friendly and very inviting.
We were also given free postcards on our arrival to send back home to family and friends and after completing our postcards they were sent off for us as well.
such friendly staff and very helpful with directions and attractions,
highly suggest you call into this pub and see it for yourself.
We are an Australian couple and the publican showed us some interesting facts they had in the pub about Australia example - Ned Kellys father was caught selling two stolen pigs out the front of the pub and arrested and transported to Tasmania.
After telling the publican my surname was Doolan he contacted a fellow Doolan in the area and told him to come meet me at the pub!
Fantastic and would go back any day!

This castle was build in XIII century and one of the largest in Ireland. Very well restored and preserved. The guided tour is interesting and very informative.

Cahir Farmers Market, now a firm fixture in the Castle Car Park every Saturday 9am - 1pm.There is ample parking, great local produce, a friendly welcome in a stunning setting.

Passing through Cahir I seen the signs for the market, at a quick count there was 8 -10 stalls. Plenty of home baking,plants,knitting, fish and wooden goods, Could possibly do with more stalls for selection, I only left with a Beautiful hand crafted and hand painted wooden mushroom fairy house. The market is set in the carpark beside Cahir Catle with a beautiful river and park area beside it, with the river holding court to approx 20 swans! So a beautiful setting if you had time to spent.

Cahir Abbey was a house of Augustinian Canons Regular, founded in the last decade of the twelfth century. The Abbey is situated off Upper Abbey Street on The Tipperary Road , Cahir ,Co Tipperary. The Abbey has no full time staff and is open to the public Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm daily by the gate keeper excluding bank holidays. The abbey is looked after by the OPW and local community groups such As Cahir Tidy towns. At the site rests an informational plaque. If further information is requested I would recommend a visit to the nearby ( 5 minute walk ) Cahir Cahir (Also under the care of the OPW). This year (2013) work is been carried out by Cahir Tidy Towns and the OPW which has seen a wall been restored and plants been set in a flower bed at the entrance. Cahir Abbey is FREE to visit. The chancel still stands today along with towers and other statures. The Abbey has really only started to appear on the tourist map as an attraction to see. A must see in Cahir , But after you have visited The Swiss cottage and Cahir Castle.
