In Hofsardal is the old farm Bustarfell, one of Iceland’s best-kept turf houses whose uniqueness lies in its clear image of farming practices and lifestyle from before 1770 until 1966. The museum is open daily through the summer, 10:00 – 17:00. Cafe Croft is next door.
This really is a must see attraction if you are travelling Route 1 between Egilsstadir and Lake Myvatn. Route 85 is now paved and it is surfaced all the way to the property. The 39Km distance is covered easily in 30 minutes. What awaits you is not so much a farmhouse as an under cover farm. The house has been occupied since at least 1770 until 1966. Turf covered it is contains under cover not only the very many house rooms but also the workshops and animal shelters. The house is a positive maze to explore and appreciate the possessions left by the owners. It allows you to appreciate the way of life in the area and the remoteness of their life. There is a cafe next door and easy parking.

Gljufursarfoss is just near the road. It is a high, large waterfall; the river runs through a deep, narrow gorge and the sight leaves no one unaffected.
Like all Waterfalls, after a heavy rain it roars. This time in Iceland, extremely heavy rains made the falls thunder

Exhibition - We also offer genealogical services, looking into the past to the time of their ancestors, but also into the present in search of relatives in Iceland. We can help in planning visits to places and people connected with their family.

The swimming pool is 12 km. from central Vopnafjorður. The pool is on the banks of the Sela river which runs along a shallow ravine. It is a beautiful setting for a swimming pool, and ours is famous for its surroundings. Access for handicapped people is good at the Sela pool. Picnic area, a large sundeck, large hot tub and a wading pool.
This is a little out of town but worth the drive. It's by a fly fishing stream. There is a hot tub and a larger pool that has a shallow end for kids.

Ljósastapi is a rock pillar standing in the sea on the eastern side of Vopnafjördur. Its shape reminds one clearly of an elephant, and is an impressive sight.
There is no sign for the Elephant, but if you get a map at the information center you can find it. It's out of town, down a gravel road.
The only writer and composer museum in Iceland. Múlastofa in Vopnafjördur is a memorial exhibition featuring the works of the brothers Jón Múli Árnason and Jónas Árnason who were well known in Iceland for their art and skills at music, lyrics, theatre and much more. The exhibition is in Kaupvangur, a beautifully renovated building near the old harbor in the town of Vopnafjördur.
