Finished driving across the highlands, the last part in thick fog, so needed some coffee and a rest. This place has a neat retro vibe with lots of books, and served good coffee and bakery treats. Also soups though we did not try them. Clean restroom. We picked up some croissants later for our next day picnic, wish they opened earlier.

We had dinner in the Gistihusid on 26.08.2017. We were at first seated right at the entrance of the restaurant next to the children's playroom. Since the kids playing there had a lot of fun and thus loud, I asked for an other table, which was granted. After all, when eating here for these kind of extraordinary high prices, I don't want to sit next to screaming kids.
The food was absolutely delicious and worth the price. Service is perfect and attentive.

Klausturkaffi is located in the former home of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson. It is a mansion built in 1939 and donated to the Icelandic nation in 1948. Now a cultural centre in memory of the writer. Opening hours of the restaurant are: May&Sep. 11:00-17:00. June-August 10:00-18:00. April & half October 12:00-16:00. Focus on local food.
My husband and I had supper here in August and it was fantastic! He enjoyed the reindeer pie and I loved the keish. The staff were all so plesent and we also purchased some preserves that are made at the restaurant as well. The both of us were able to eat for around 80$ CAN which isn't to bad regarding the prices in Iceland and the quantity and quality of the meal. We would like to go back for the lunch buffet but unfortunately will are leaving the area tomorrow to continue our trip on the ring road. 100% recommended!!!

On the menu you can find a great variation of delicious meals including Cafe Nielsen's pride, the reindeersteak from the east coast of Iceland. Also on the menu you can find a good selection of homebaked cakes, cacao and coffee drinks. The balcony on Cafe Nielsen is a great place for all of those who want to sit outside og enjoy great catering. Warm welcomes Staff of Cafe Nielsen

This little cafe was overrun on the Sunday we arrived in town. Demanding tourist were getting cranky with the frantic staff, which only made things worse. We waited patiently and were rewarded with the gratitude of a frazzled waitress, who gave us a great discount for the delay and out patience. We only had coffee and shared a cake but it was worth the wait.

We stayed at the hotel and were tempted to eat at the restaurant and try the reindeer.
The food was very good. We shared Lobster tails soup, reindeer pate, reindeer steak and lamb. The reindeer meat was exceptional. Dinner was very expensive but the taste justified the higher price.

Kol bistro is an Indian restaurant located at Hótel Hallormsstaður.
What a surprise, first-rate Indian food in remote village in Iceland! But food was terrific, and a nice change of pace after a week traveling around Iceland. Well prepared and presented. Flavorful. Beautiful views of lake and forest. As with all meals in Iceland, a bit on pricey side of course.

We thought we would eat at this "restaurant" because it was a little cheaper than the one at our hotel. Big mistake. Yes, we saved $10 but everything about this place was terrible. Service was totally non-existent, the food was overcooked, slow in coming, and tasted weird. We are just hoping that we are not going to be made ill with it overnight. Foolishly we waited until we could get someone to allow us to pay for this rubbish meal. We could have walked out very easily without paying. Sadly our only bad experience in our week thus far in Iceland.

Il locale è tutto in legno ed è decisamente molto bello, con vista sulla campagna circostante. Il cibo è buono e ben cucinato, anche se si devono sempre considerare gli standard islandesi con ridotta possibilità di scelta. Comunque consigliabile

Even when you reach the end of the Earth and locate a Subway, you can count on it being like every other one you've ever been to...minus the "sub sauce". Maybe it was a language barrier?
Ordered a sweet onion chicken teriyaki and it tasted exactly like it does at home.
