Glenkinchie Distillery

Glenkinchie Distillery lies in the heart of the East Lothian countryside, 15 miles from Edinburgh. Why not pay a visit to see how we produce the Edinburgh Malt. After a trip around our museum, where you can see a wonderful model of a distillery, you will then be taken round the distillery by one of our experienced and informative guides who will explain the stages of production of Single Malt Whisky. You will visit the Kiln Room, the Millroom, The Mash House, the Tun Room and the Stillhouse where you will see one of the largest Copper Pot Stills in Scotland. After a trip to the traditional warehouse you will finish up in the bar with a dram or two of Whisky

Glenkinchie Distillery is the closest distillery to Edinburgh, accessible via bus, taxi (about 40£) or a shuttle run by the distillery to Edinburgh's Old Town (10£). The tour (10£) is informative and takes you through every step of the whisky-making process, including right up to the fermentation tanks and pot still. It ends with a tasting of two types of Glenkinchie whisky. It’s worth paying a little extra (another 4£) for two more tastes of whisky, as they have some delicious whiskies available to try from other Distilleries. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable and had great suggestions for other drams to try! The website recommends advanced Reservations, but we called the morning of and they got us right in when we arrived. If you’re a whisky fan or curious how it’s made, I definitely recommend it.

Love going to Musselburgh to try to win a few £s, sip a few wines & watch the many characters who are there to celebrate different occasions. Horse racing is incidental when there is so much to see. Also love the music in the tent from Funkwagen. Great day out. Wish we could get better weather though!
Wine selection could be better as there is only one white, one rose and one red.

Arthur's Seat

Arthur's Seat is one of four hill forts, dating from around 2,000 years ago. Situated within Holyrood Park, as well as it's rich cultural heritage, the park offers walks, solace, wildlife, volcanic geology and unparalleled vistas of the city from its many vantage points. The park has several Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designations due to its exceptional range of grassland habitats and its internationally important volcanic geology. Ranger service on site.

We climbed from Holyrood Park and to be honest, it’s quite a steep hike. There were a few places where a fear of heights will be prohibitive to travelers. Overall we enjoyed it, but the recent rain made for a slippy and slow trek up the mountain. We saw many hikers in trainers and flats—definitely wear shoes you can hike in.

I have passed Longniddry Golf Club for years on my way to Gullane, Muirfield or North Berwick and always thought "how can I play that course it looks great"! Well finally I spoke up to my friends who live in the area and turns out my friends father was a former member (he is sadly deceased) so we called up and made the booking. I loved the course, clubhouse, members were great, pints in the clubhouse after were perfect (we watched the final round of the Open) as were the biscuits! This is a great "just came off the plane course" to get your legs ready for Scotland (remember it is walking, walking/carry or pull the trolley here) or the perfect "coda" to a five day trip as it was just great fun. I really enjoyed it, loved the area and will look forward to my next trip to play it again!

Winton House

Winton lands predate the Magna Carta; and the Setons built the House before Leonardo da Vinci established his reputation. Their architect, the King's Master Mason, didn't work on ordinary Castles! His carved, twisted chimneys still herald the palace within and his ornate plaster ceilings are the most elaborate in Scotland. A Castle for Hire with a Warm Welcome Winton House remains a private house, but one which is available for hire for a wide variety of functions. It has architectural grandeur and history, but is not aloof or austere; you are welcomed warmly as a guest into a home (mine!). Corporate Events with a Twist Winton House can be exclusively yours for memorable corporate events, gala dinners, incentive events, private parties and special celebrations. The House's interconnecting reception rooms are ideally laid out for conferences and meetings. A Wedding Venue with Real Romance For a truly Scottish wedding, Winton is one of the most romantic wedding venues in the country and will make your big day a memorable one. Look no further if you're considering country house or castle wedding venues! If you're looking to develop your management team's performance and collaborative skills then we can offer a range of interesting and innovative events, including: 4x4 driving; Archery; Clay Pigeon Shooting; Falconry; Golf (East Lothian has some of the finest courses in Scotland); The Winton Highland Games; Hovercraft driving; Whisky tasting; and Wine and Champagne tasting.

We love Cuthill Park & visit regularly. The play equipment is fantastic, & there are lots of slopes for kids to run or roll down. The views across the Firth of Forth are beautiful, and the trees surrounding the park give a lovely woodland-clearing type feel to some areas of the park. The community garden is also a lovely place to sit - a real sun trap, when the sun is out :)
