If you want to catch a new movie, this place has nice tasty snacks. Sadly, they get some moves that play only one week which sucks. I wish that they do Midnight showings of Cult films once in a while, like the classic Friday the 13th on a Friday the 13th or the original Halloween on Halloween.

RED Mountain Resort

RED Mountain is the last great, unspoiled resort. Located in Rossland, BC, along the famous "Powder Highway," RED delivers 4,200 acres of pristine skiing unfettered by overdevelopment. For 2013-14, we've added nearly 1,000 acres of mostly-intermediate terrain on Grey Mountain - an entirely new peak. (Well, OK, Grey's been there for millions of years, but without runs or lifts on it.) With 300"/7.6m of annual snowfall, wide-open groomers, epic vertical (2,919ft/890m!), in-bounds cat-skiing, 360 degree descents off select peaks, a rich tradition, and - phew! - the BEST tree runs in BC, it's no wonder The NY Times voted us their #8 "Best Place in the World to Visit in 2013." Other accolades include #1 in Powder's "Ski Town Throwdown," and "Most Underrated Resort" by Skiing. Around here, we pride ourselves on fresh turns that you don't have to fight for... Aside from the legendary skiing and snowboarding, RED boasts world-class cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, movie nights and après action in Rafters, "North America's Best Ski Area Bar" according to Powder Magazine (and us...). Modern ski in/out lodging, fine dining, a professional ski school, guiding, high-performance rentals, daycare that's just steps away from gourmet espresso, and a free shuttle to Rossland round out our offering. With Rossland's turn-of-the-century charm and our legendarily friendly locals, RED Mountain Resort is the full vacation package: Everything you need. Nothing you don't. (The only fluff we offer is our snow!)

Red mountain totally delivered on its promise. A great skiers mountain with few of the trappings of modern resort living. Amazing terrain, great snow, no lift lines, great food, an awesome apres ski bar and lots of lodging options. Super slow lifts mean fewer runs but also fewer skiers so you can get freshies a full day after a dump. I will be back. Not many groomers though so you may want to leave the beginners at home.

Marble Canyon

Reviewed By Tigerman777

If you have limited time, make sure to check out this canyon because it is SPECTACULAR!!! If you're staying in Banff, it's only a half hour northwest off highway 93, from Lake Louise about a half hour southwest. It's only 15 minutes off highway 1/transcontinental. I couldn't believe how beautiful and peaceful it was. I got there about 6:00pm after spending some time checking out the Radium Hot Springs (highly recommend, reasonable price for soaking, only $5.50CAD), Verdant Creek (also highly recommend, water a different color from others, with interesting views of the shale rock), Sinclair Canyon and Paint Pots. The whole area is simply beautiful, but I think Marble Canyon (known as a slot Canyon) is the best!!! When I was there later in the day, the water reminded me of my favorite drink, pure white almond milk. Simply spectacular!!! One of the neatest things here is to see two different colors of water meeting: the Emerald rock flour brought in from glacial water from the Tokumm
Creek and that milk white water from the Vermillion River. It's really obvious the white water wins. The white brilliance of the rock makes it obvious why it's called Marble Canyon. Near one of the sets of steps you'll see a chain link fence with a latch on the left to open a gate to go down to the river. I did so, not to swim, which is not a good idea( water quite fast moving, with a lot of boulders to crash into), but to put my hand in it. I put my hand in it three times to smell it. Twice to get any smell off my hands, once to get the true sense of its aroma. I even cleaned out my nose a little to make sure I would get the true smell of it. I was surprised how good the aroma was. . It smelled a little bit like coconut and cinnamon. Really cool. There are some stones you could put in the water to see just how much like shiny marble the dolomite rock looks like (caused by the swirling water of the river). There are a couple of areas in the canyon where it might be possible to touch both sides at the same time if you could get close enough, but please don't try it. You get a nice view between the Canyon walls on several of the Bridges. When you think you're done, please keep going until the Waterfalls. There are several Waterfalls to be aware of. One of them you may not even see until you turn around to go back after seeing one of them. You won't get a great view of it though, unless you go in winter and are an ice climber. They're marvelous to see. Make sure to take a seat on the cool red chairs up a hill a little, it's the only place I stopped to do so. You can see Vermillion Peak when looking back over the first bridge over Marble Canyon. It is quite imposing. Mount Whymper is also visible behind the red chairs. I can't forget the fact you can find flowers as well in some areas on the trail not too far from the falls, like near those chairs.
In conclusion, due to the serenity, the astounding beauty with so much diversity, simplicity to see the Canyon (an elderly person in decent shape could do it pretty easily, maybe someone with a walker would not be recommended though, there are several flights of steps to navigate) and the lack of crowds here, I would recommend to anyone to visit here. Most people don't even know it's in the area. It's not the largest Canyon by any means in the Rockies, but in my opinion it's the prettiest.

Big Red Cats

With limited powder skiing experience and no backcountry experience I decided to two days of cat skiing with a large group of buddies. Big Red Cats did a nice job picking runs that were interesting and challenging for multiple group members, even those with much more experience. The guides were super friendly and fun and took safety very seriously. The cat driver was excellent at moving the thing around and great to talk to, very interesting guy. The terrain is amazing and beautiful, and the snow quality up in the cut where they run trips was really just about perfect. Its not cheap, but in Canada everything is on sale right now, so I thought it was a decent value.

Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre

Established in 1955, the Rossland Historical Museum and Archives Association is a not-for-profit society whose Mission is to preserve and dynamically present the heritage of Rossland and area. The Rossland Historical Museum & Archives Association began in the basement of the Rossland Court House in 1954 and was incorporated under the BC Societies Act in March of 1955. The present museum was built on the site of the Black Bear mine in 1967 as a Canadian Centennial project. Although the mine (and underground tour) is permanently closed, the museum still speaks to this area of our history and a video of the underground tour is available during operating hours. The museum building houses thousands of artifacts in the storage rooms. The archives stores and preserves historic photos, documents, the Rossland Miner newspapers from 1896 to 1972, maps and the City's early assessment and tax rolls, as well as other important mining and community historical information. The museum is also the host organization for the Destination BC Visitor Centre and has tourist information, maps, and guides pertaining to BC, the Kootenay Rockies, and other tourist regions as well as our local communities. We also have a computer station for visitors use.

Sinclair Canyon and the Redwall Fault

99% of people drive through this awesome canyon, but there is a sidewalk for pedestrians, which makes for an interesting short walk. Sinclair Creek exits the canyon on the west side, and the viewpoint there is great. Walking through the immense cliffs in the canyon is quite inspiring. Approaching the Hot Springs Area, you see the wonderful red rock that transforms this wonderful place into a stunning attraction. Best to park on the east side of the canyon.

Columbia River Skywalk

1000 feet long, stretched across the mighty Columbia River here in Trail. Beautiful grounds around it and a stunning view of the river when you are standing about mid-way. For pedestrians only, (cyclists are allowed) with slip proof material on the surface.
A great view of Trail looking in one direction, unfortunately right at the massive metal factory. There is all kinds of information online for it, but no website. I will be adding the photos we took as well.
If you are in Trail for any reason, it is definitely a must see, but there is more parking on the Columbia Road side than on the Riverside Ave side. A truly beautiful bridge that I am sure the city is very proud of.

Columbia and Western Rail Trail

Reviewed By Peter B - Cat Ba, Vietnam

I've explored two sections of this amazing trail. The Castlegar trail up to a trestle is currently being upgraded and they are working very hard to get this section fixed up. Everyone here are very friendly as most Canadians welcome visitors from the outside world. Indeed, it's a place where consideration and courtesy are in common practice for no charge. I just hope they install a donation box at the trail head so I can support this incredible effort to make the world a better place.
