Enclosed by ramparts, Taroudant is the epitome of a Moroccan market town. Engage in friendly bargaining at a souk in one of the two main squares, then revive your spirit with a soak at an authentic hammam steam bath. Take a day trip to the refreshing Tioute Oasis, birdwatch at Souss Massa National Park, or enjoy an evening of Berber folk music under the stars.

Wow! This was worth the walk. Do you want to buy veggies, meat or the whole sheep (or goat or cow)? Metal or farm implements? Maybe some dish soap, spices or hmmm what is That? Cheap prices compared to within the walls. Amazing tangerines and bananas. The blondes with me x3 had no issues. Though 2 were children...
So far, my favorite experience in Taroudant.

This ancient wall of 8 KM lenght sourrounds a vivid medina mostly unspoiled by western tourists. At the great entrance, a part of the wall can be mounted free of charge, giving a nice overview of the compound. Inside, you will find mostly local business with some nice craftsman to be watched while they are welding or wood decorating in their little shops. Local Berber market on some days of the week, with simple products in a rather simple and poor village

Not just another factory tour. A taste for all your senses, overwhelming, odoriferous, and quite an eyeful. The guides of course take you to their favorite bazaar shop to view the finished leather products. They need their commission from the shopkeeper, so be aware the price includes their kickback. They need to make a living. Just part of the &U.N. exploring in Morocco.

Aarab Lahcen is still practicing the ancient art of silver filigree in his little shop in Taroudant. It's becoming more difficult to find Moroccan silver work. Much of the silver in Morocco is imported from Thailand. Not so in Lahcen's shop. He pulls the tiny silver threads, starting from a brick of silver from the Tinghir silver mines. Then weaves them into intricate, lacy filigrees for earrings, rings, necklaces, all beautifully made. Many other styles and special orders are possible. Lahcen, himself, is worth a visit, a silver mine of information about the history of silver work in Morocco.

without being pressured. Quite educational regarding argan harvesting and processing. This cooperative provides income for disadvantaged women, thus it is a great shop to buy souvenirs whilst supporting women in difficult circumstances.

Imagine visiting a deposit bank of 800 or so years old. Villagers used to store their valuables here in order to protect against villains.
This is a low-prophile site: you just get to see how the agadir was used in the past and by that you can almost feel as if you walk in a different time.

Took a coach trip to this inland ancient Berber city, whilst visiting Agadir on a cruise. Had never heard of the place until receiving the cruise excursions itinerary and had originally planned to go to Marrakech. However that was a 3.5 hour trip and being up in the Mountains and it being November were persuaded to visit what is known in some circles as little Marrakech, as this was only a 1.5 hour trip and we would travel further south where the weather was warmer. We left port just before 8am, and were able to see quite a bit of the country on our 90 minute trip. What it revealed is that this area of Morroco is not a place of beauty. With the Atlas Mountains in the background we travelled through some arid countryside, passing through some very Third World looking villages on generally poor roads, after we left the Agadir to Marrakech motorway. Part way we stopped to view the very odd sight of Tamri Goats up an Argan tree. We were told the this was a phenomena unique to this area, but it seemed very set up for tourists. With snow capped Mountains in the background we reached Taroudant around 9.15am and stopped at a hotel just outside the city walls for refreshments and a comfort stop of approx 30 mins. We then drove into the city via a large square, with the new city walls on one side and the old ones on the other and stopped in the old quarter where we were taken on a 90 minute tour which was quite interesting and like travelling back in time. Unlike Marrakech, Taroudant receives few tourists, mainly from cruise liners like ourselves, so has retained much of its old buildings and way of life. Our guide was very informative answering all our questions and much of the tour took place through narrow backstreet markets and then into the indoor market, which was nothing more than a huge dilapidated shed. We were given a short time to visit some souvenir stalls and also a visit to a herbal remedy/spice shop. Then straight back to the coach to leave just before noon. Would really have liked a bit more time to look around have a drink in main square, but guide had to follow the tour company rules. The whole trip lasted 5 hours and was an interesting if short experience and considering it was a cruise operated trip, not over expensive. Not everyones cup of tea, but worth a try if you wish to broaden your knowledge of other ways of life

In Taroudant Caleche Carriage Tours, we organise Taroudant city Carriage Tours which are very wonderful tours around the historical city, the amazing walls, between souks, frequently the normal & simple Roudani People inside & outside the city. Our Tours duration is 30 min to 1 hour .
Taroudant's a pleasant, relaxing, stress-free, un-pushy sort of place (i.e. it's everything Marrakech isn't), and just right for a tour by carriage or caleche. Use Taroudant Caleche Carriage Tours or find a cab waiting in the street or ask your hotel porter to find one, as I did.
I more or less left it up to the driver where to go, just agreeing before we started on the price (not excessive) and about how long it would last (about one and a half to two hours, as with the previous reviewer). There was very little traffic even on the road outside the walls (in mid-morning), the sun shone but it wasn't too hot under our canopy, and it was very, very enjoyable.
