It is fun and great experience visiting this Korea's largest single salt farm. After went to Salt Museum to learn about the manufacturing process of salt, history and different kind of sea salt, another guide explained how they process and storage the sea salt in this salt farm, then we follow him to experience ourselves how to collect the sea salt in the field. Try the ice cream top with sea salt with choice of different taste such as green tea, strawberry... the salt make the ice cream more tasty!

A walk up to the two peaks of Yudal Mountain is a rewarding experience. It only takes around an hour to get up to the tallest peak and each turn gives you better and better views. There are lots of places to stop, rest, take photos and even picnic if it takes your fancy! Some of the paths are very steep or the steps may be small so make sure you wear trainers or comfy shoes. We really enjoyed using the opportunity to get our bearings in Mokpo as it is our new home. I know well will climb Yudal many more times yet!

This is a beautiful Bonsai Park in the southwestern part of Korea accessible by car, so you don't have to take a ferry or plane. The trees are laid out in a beautiful park like setting and there is a nice museum with a wonderful library/bookstore/coffee-shop overlooking the ocean. There is a nice parking place, and there were no crowds. There is one tree with an estimated value of $500,000 and you can walk right up to it and take pictures. Some of the trees had small fruit, while other bonsai trees had one or two full size pieces of fruit. The park is on the side of a hill so you have to be able to walk up and down hills. There were no stairs that I remember, it was all asphalt paths flowing through manicured lawns with beautiful bonsai trees spaced evenly around the grounds. Many trees are 100 - 350+ years old.

We arrived at Heuksando after 2 nights on Hongdo.
We were greeted by a taxi tour company (30-50,000) and a lady from Asia Motel (40,000) conveniently located right behind the ferry building.
The taxi tour lasted about 2.5 hours and was a pleasant way to get to know the island (tour in Korean only).
There are beautiful hikes (which we did in the afternoon); the trails were visible but not cleared from various plants with needles. Wear hiking gear, boots, panths.
The Asia Motel has a restaurant; we had thr kimchi stew and a seafood porridge (delicious).
There were tours of the surrounding Islands (no stops) but because of low demand they were not running (we were on Heuksando in mid-July). High season must be August and Chuseok.
There are no cafes or nice bars (there does seem to be some seedy nightlife). But you can geab a can of beer or ice cream from one of the two corner stores.
There are minbak around the island in lovely and isolated coves.
It's a great island for hikers, but lile Hongdo, given the lack of dining options and very basic accomodation, it's not worth spending many days.
Bring your own coffee, breakfast and fruit.

This museum is located next to Mokpo harbour, allowing visitors a comparative perspective on Korean watercraft. Ancient vessels rest just a short distance away from their modern counterparts, giving tourists an idea of what the ships exhibited in the museum might have been used for in daily life. Not much in the way of English descriptions, with many of the captions available only in Korean. However, a guide was on hand to explain each of the exhibits when I visited. The great views of the adjacent harbour were definitely a plus!

If you are travelling to Mokpo, and you enjoy photography, you will not be disappointed. Of the numerous sites to capture images of in Mokpo, taking a picture of the Mokpo Bridge is certainly a highlight. The bridge is an architectural marvel, and is especially nice to photograph as the sun is setting and within an hour after sunset when the bridge lights start to come on. Be sure to bring your tripod!
The are a number of great access points near the beach in Mokpo on Haeyangdaehak-ro. This is the road that the Marine University is on.
The image I took is within an hour of sunset and I was positioned on a concrete boardwalk that juts out into the water beside the beach....
This area is accessible by bus, by car, or by taxi, and is a beautiful place to just walk as the sun is setting, while the ships are sounding their horns.......very peaceful.....enjoy!

Great experience at the 2012 Korean F1 Grand Prix at the Yeongam circuit. Huge circuit and surrounding area allows plenty of place for the thousands of spectators to roam without being too crowded and got great view of the track for the main race at the first turn. Overall, fun, fantastic and hoping to do it again next year!

This small museum near Yudalsan is worth visiting. It provides visitors with a photographic history of South Korea during the 20th century. Many of the photos focus on Mokpo and Jeollanam-do and provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region. Be warned, this museum isn’t for the faint of heart. Many of their photos deal with the worst elements of the Japanese occupation of Korea.

Housed in the former Japanese consulate this museum has interesting displays about the history of Mokpo and the building. It's a good place to start your visit to Mokpo as it covers the history of some other attractions and the view from the Gardens give a good overview of the town.
Make sure to visit the former WWII bomb shelters at the rear of the building.

Traveling back in time, we will find dinosaurs skeletons at natural size and a lot of information about the existence of these big animals in a beautiful scenario and modern installations. This museum has a lot of Exhibitions about the nature of korea and it is a great educational experience that I recommend for the whole family. Because many exhiitions are in korean, i strongly recommend to rent audio phones with english guided tour, available at the front desk in the museum. The acces price is cheap (4 Us $ or less for adult) and easy to reach by bus.
