The nature reserve at Schoorl offers vast forest, the highest dunes in the Netherlands and a large beach. I like the very old church of the old village of Schoorl; a nice area to explore after a bike tour or walk in the nature reserve.

het strand van Bergen aan Zee

Reviewed By MickeyandDora - Greater London, United Kingdom

The Netherlands are blessed with endless wide sandy Beaches and lots of villages-on-the-beach. Bergen-aan-Zee is one of the friendliest, unassuming but lovely parts. Because the beach is so wide and stretches literally along the coast from north to south, you can always find some space and it never gets to crowded. Shallow waters, watched over by lifeguards. Great day out, couple of lovely restaurants and coffee places nearby.

Strand Egmond aan Zee

Reviewed By Hanneke_8 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Egmond has a nice wide beach to walk. However, the dunes are not very high here. You can see the roofs of homes and hotels over the dunes. Quite different in that respect from Zandvoort or Ijmuiden. The place has a typical touristy feel to it, but it is enjoyable. Several nice beach cafe's on the beach, which were open although it was the middle of the winter. All in all, an enjoyable beach to visit.

They have done a wonderful job with the widening of the beach there. The view from there is spelbinding with the waves beating onto the beach, the forever blowing wind in your face and the endless beach from Petten to as far as the eye can see and then of course the North Sea with its low lying and moving clouds. A forever changing and captivating scenery.

Museum BroekerVeiling

Dispatching goods by auction was done here. Inside the inner sections of the covered complex were the piers or landing platforms. Herein goods were received for auction. The means of transport was through the water and the products were auctioned in bulk.
An interesting way to facilitate marketing of products. I guess there was a certain control of the prices of specific products. it might depend on a season when crops can be harvested.

We visited the place for the first time with our children, respectively 10, 8 and 1 years old. We all enjoyed the place very much. There is an area outside and one inside. We had been in the latter and it is possible also to buy the ticket for one of the two zones. The children and us had a great time. Inside there is a large pool excellent for children younger than 5 years old. The smaller child had a fantastic time there, and also the two old ones had a lot of fun. There are five water slides that we adults also tried with a lot of fun.

A steep sand dune leading to a very large woodland with plenty of paths and cycle routes. A lovely area to walk. If the hill is too much for you to manage there is a path to the right behind an hotel that is more manageable. There are bars and cafes at the base of the hill for refreshments.
