This high alpine road is not as spectacular as the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse (which lies to the east, near Lienz) but it's certainly a great road for motorbike enthusiasts and offers terrific views. If you approach it from the west (Bludenz, Montafon), you are very soon faced with an impressive set of 32 switchbacks taking you up to the Vermuntsee, a man-made lake. This is the more challenging part of the ride, but it is hardly a difficult road Further up, you reach the Bielerhoehe Pass (2071 m), the highest point of this ride and definitely worth a stop by the Silvretta Lake. The Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse is a toll road and motorbikes pay 12 Euro for the 25 km stretch (cars pay 15 Euro, I believe). Many complain about this toll, but I think it's worth it and it won't stop me from going back there again next season.
Be on the lookout for laser speed-traps set up by the Austrian Gendarmerie. If you're caught speeding (the limit is 70 kph) your trip may become even more expensive.

Kinda crazy. it goes fast. feels a little loose and shaky. I would never let kid go down alone. That said, a memorable experience...

The chapel is cozy. I was not touched by the history, but this place, on this mountain from this village brings up a lot of peace in your brain and your soul. It is amazing how detached you can be from your professional activities when you watch happy people doing the mountain bike, or just passing by, or when you just look at the nice houses and farms around.

Beautiful, unpoluted nature. Very quiet. Breathtaking views of the Mountains and the glacier. Don't miss visiting this when you are in the Montafon area. You can take nice pictures. You can take a walk around thelake, but it is quite long (> 6km). We had a buggy with us and had to turn back after about 1.5 km as it was a bit cumbersome. The drive up to the lake is itself beautiful. There is a long pause at noon when there are no buses. So, plan your visit accordingly.

Montafon Folk Museum Schruns The oldest parts of the building originate from the 15th century and the long corridors of the upper floors give us an idea of the architecture of the late Middle Ages. The urban flair of the building is the result of the boom of the mining period. In those years, the so-called "Bergrichter", a judge to judge the miners, resided in this house. During the Bavarian foreign rule the building was extended around the year 1800. Later on the police and the jail were situated in the building and thereafter the Music School Montafon. In 1978 the "Heimatschutzverein" for the protection of the cultural heritage adopted the building and extended it four years later. The new part has four stories and houses the permanent and temporary exhibition while the old part offers a tour through the style of home decor and the working world of previous centuries. The latest enlagrement was the building of a cellar for the new Montafon Archive in 2002.
I come here to visit friends, but the place is charming and the views are stunning. Lots of little interesting sights around, but off-season it's very quiet and mostly just locals. Many of the restaurants and hotels are closed, but there's a great little Italian place and a pub or two that stay open during off season.
