You walk into a temple complex that is stunning in its architecture and so full of history and spirituality only to be accosted by priests at every turn trying to coerce you into paying for prayers you don't need. The temple can be a little confusing but follow the crowd and politely decline the 'pandas' who will try to pull you to parts of the temple you need not go (they make you part with your money there!). The crowd can swell very suddenly so have your prayer and move away to a quiet spot an drink up the beauty of this temple. Don't forget to look up at the art on the ceiling! Note that handphones and other recording gadgets are strictly prohibited. So, make sure you leave them with your driver or someone who is not entering the temple complex with you. The parking area is around 500 metres away. You will need to pay and take a minibus to get to the temple.

It is serene minus the heart numbing crowd that Puri Beaches cater to. a little way ahead at the Estuaries, take a boat ride to the almost untouched stretch of bright yellow sand dunes. Enjoy the sun bathing Saras birds.
its a sight to behold.

Crowded beach but good part is that chairs are available on rent @ Rs. 20 per hour. Sit and relish local dishes. Do camel ride and relax on beach

Poor quality boats with noisy outboard engine. No safety equipment. No communication. Mobile coverage was almost through out the portion of lake we traversed. Our companions were stressed due to uncomfortable Seating. Other than large span of water there is nothing much to see.

The highlight was seeing two or three of the elusive Irrawaddy dolphins, but it was disappointing that we saw very few birds other than seagulls.
The trip was run by the OSTDC (Odisha State Tourist Development Corporation) and was good value at a ticket price of Rs350 ( if I remember correctly), with another payment of Rs220 to the guide for paying the boatman). I had to buy the ticket the day before at the OSTDC ticket office, which is a bit hard to find and not known to some oto drivers.
The first stop after about 20 minutes is at a temple ( Hindus only) in a quiet village next to a tea stall, followed by breakfast back on the main road at the next village. Then we stopped at the OSTDC’s Satapada Lodge to order lunch, then on the boat for about an hour to see the dolphins and to a fishing settlement on an island where you can walk down to the Indian Ocean.
Then it was back to Satapada Lodge for lunch, then back to Puri by about 4 pm.

Alarnath temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is situated in Brahmagiri of Puri district of Odisha State. The temple is just around 28 km from the famous Lord Jagannath Temple, Puri. This place is well known among the devotees of Lord Krishna. Lord’s idol is made of Black granite stone and is about five and a half feet height.
The History says that during 1610 A.D., Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stayed at Alarnath during anavasara period of Lord Jagannath. Anavasara is the two weeks period when Lord Jagannatha take rest in isolation from the rest of the world after suffering from fever due to the annual bathing festival (Snana Yatra). Lord Chaitanya claimed that he visualised the appearance of Lord Jagannath in Alarnath and spent a long period in worshipping the deity here. It is believed that those who can not worship Lord Jagannath during his stay in the sick chamber can get the blessings of the deity if they visit the Alarnath temple.
The Temple opens at 6 AM.and closes at 9:00 PM. We visited this temple on 13th December after visiting Chilika lake. The Legend say that Lord Brahma, in Satya Yug, did penance here for Lord Vishnu, who appeared before him. Hence this place is being known as Brahmagiri.

A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses, and to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.
The Lighthouse at Puri is located at the end of Marine Drive road and can prominently be seen from the entire stretch of Marine drive. This is open for public from 4 pm to 5 pm. We however could not visit the Light House as we were not aware of the timings.
Lighthouses mark safe entries to harbors, and can assist in aerial navigation. Once widely used, the number of operational Lighthouses has declined due to the expense of maintenance and use of electronic navigational systems.
