Love going to Musselburgh to try to win a few £s, sip a few wines & watch the many characters who are there to celebrate different occasions. Horse racing is incidental when there is so much to see. Also love the music in the tent from Funkwagen. Great day out. Wish we could get better weather though!
Wine selection could be better as there is only one white, one rose and one red.

I live locally but had never visited this museum till I had a project for college, I loved my visit and learned a lot about the area I live in, a lot of things I didn't know about the place I've lived in for more than two decades! Definitely recommend a visit as something to learn more about the area and a good time out.

Arthur's Seat

Arthur's Seat is one of four hill forts, dating from around 2,000 years ago. Situated within Holyrood Park, as well as it's rich cultural heritage, the park offers walks, solace, wildlife, volcanic geology and unparalleled vistas of the city from its many vantage points. The park has several Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designations due to its exceptional range of grassland habitats and its internationally important volcanic geology. Ranger service on site.

There is some parking a the bottom, and part way up, the hill, but nothing else there. No toilets or café, or shelter etc so make sure that you are prepared before you set off. If it is looking like rain then I'd postpone for another day as it fully exposed - and the view, which is half the point of climbing up, will be hidden anyway.
On a good day it is fantastic, on a bad day, dismal!

Glenkinchie Distillery

Glenkinchie Distillery lies in the heart of the East Lothian countryside, 15 miles from Edinburgh. Why not pay a visit to see how we produce the Edinburgh Malt. After a trip around our museum, where you can see a wonderful model of a distillery, you will then be taken round the distillery by one of our experienced and informative guides who will explain the stages of production of Single Malt Whisky. You will visit the Kiln Room, the Millroom, The Mash House, the Tun Room and the Stillhouse where you will see one of the largest Copper Pot Stills in Scotland. After a trip to the traditional warehouse you will finish up in the bar with a dram or two of Whisky

Reviewed By kelli_nak - Chicago, Illinois

Glenkinchie Distillery is the closest distillery to Edinburgh, accessible via bus, taxi (about 40£) or a shuttle run by the distillery to Edinburgh's Old Town (10£). The tour (10£) is informative and takes you through every step of the whisky-making process, including right up to the fermentation tanks and pot still. It ends with a tasting of two types of Glenkinchie whisky. It’s worth paying a little extra (another 4£) for two more tastes of whisky, as they have some delicious whiskies available to try from other Distilleries. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable and had great suggestions for other drams to try! The website recommends advanced Reservations, but we called the morning of and they got us right in when we arrived. If you’re a whisky fan or curious how it’s made, I definitely recommend it.

Longniddry Golf Club

Reviewed By FrequentTraveler039 - New York

I have passed Longniddry Golf Club for years on my way to Gullane, Muirfield or North Berwick and always thought "how can I play that course it looks great"! Well finally I spoke up to my friends who live in the area and turns out my friends father was a former member (he is sadly deceased) so we called up and made the booking. I loved the course, clubhouse, members were great, pints in the clubhouse after were perfect (we watched the final round of the Open) as were the biscuits! This is a great "just came off the plane course" to get your legs ready for Scotland (remember it is walking, walking/carry or pull the trolley here) or the perfect "coda" to a five day trip as it was just great fun. I really enjoyed it, loved the area and will look forward to my next trip to play it again!

We love Cuthill Park & visit regularly. The play equipment is fantastic, & there are lots of slopes for kids to run or roll down. The views across the Firth of Forth are beautiful, and the trees surrounding the park give a lovely woodland-clearing type feel to some areas of the park. The community garden is also a lovely place to sit - a real sun trap, when the sun is out :)

Newhailes

Discover 300 years of Scottish history through this magnificent and carefully conserved neo-Palladian villa. Newhailes is famed for having some of the finest rococo interiors in Scotland. There are sumptuous decorative details at every turn, from the gilded eagles over the drawing room windows to the exquisite Chinese wallpaper and imposing Italian marble fireplaces. A major part of the house's charm is its mellow feel. Newhailes has been allowed to grow old gracefully through a pioneering conservation policy which does 'as much as is necessary, but as little as possible' to keep the house in good order without disturbing its 'untouched' atmosphere.

Attended a Segway off-road excursion event and was delighted with the location. Lovely walks in typically well-preserved NTS grounds. Fabulous views across the Firth of Forth to the Bass Rock. Welcome coffee and scones in the cosy visitor centre cafe/restaurant afterwards. Weather was perfect and a great day out!

We opted to visit here on the morning of our last day, teenagers and small kids in tow we did not expect the place to be so full of stuff to see and do!! We were only able to spend a few hours there and only got to see a fraction of whats there, ate in the cafe on level 3, it was gorgeous and they had a lovely little lunch box option for the kids for less than a fiver, we are going back and its now first on our to do list!!

Seton Collegiate Church

A beautifully preserved ecclesiastical building in a wooded setting. Seton Collegiate Church has a 15th-century chancel and sacristy, stained glass windows and an inscription recounting its historical links with ill fated monarch, Mary Queen of Scots.

We live within sight of this building and visit often, always discovering something new. It is really well tended and the Historic Scotland custodian is always helpful and informative. There are many fascinating little local puzzles to solve thanks to the interactive kids' treasure trail sheet, and it's a tranquil place to pause on a warm day. Cool echoey interior full of atmosphere in which to essay some discreet singing.
