We stopped in Pictou on a return trip to the East coast and were impressed with the Hector Heritage Quay. The replica ship is well worth visiting and the history of early settlers is very informative and impressive. The quay has very clean public washrooms and the walk is interesting. It’s close to downtown Pictou which is also worth visiting to see the early architecture. It was a very worthwhile stop and we will likely return to Pictou to see the many other attractions.

A small and peaceful provincial park showing some of the Wilderness of the Northumberland shore, this setting is broken when the ferry comes in and lets off its horn. It is a nice place to visit, and the beachfront walk can take up a couple of hours.

It's an exciting experience to visit a replica of the original Hector... a typical ship of that time which brought first Scottish immigrants to Canada. And it was Pictou area where it all had started...
Immigrants arrived in fall, they weren't prepared for harsh winter... Half of then had died. But whoever survived worked on clearing land and getting some food with the help of native people. Without their support immigrants would have died all.
The ship is beautiful but the conditions for immigrants on it were unbearable. Old people and sick children were dying, there was shortage of food and water. It was hit by huge storm near Newfoundland and the arrival of the ship was postponed by two weeks.
It was incredible that they'd made it! Vivat Hector! Vivat New Scotland!

We visited this museum to learn more about the area's fishing culture and lobster management. The staff person was most welcoming and entertaining as she explained how they help protect the baby lobster during the early days of their lives. Being from prairies, we developed a new respect for this industry and its respect for the lobster. The museum itself is well done with lots of info about the history and challenges of harvesting on the sea. This is a must visit when in Pictou and area.

I've heard quite a bit about this brewery. They are at the New Glasgow Farmer's market and have a significant following.
I had family visiting from the UK this summer and wanted to showcase local food and drink. Off I go to find the brewery. I would strongly advise that they put up more signage. It's not at all hard to find if you know what you're looking for. The building is very small and just a bit off the road so driving by a few times...
Uncle Leo's offers a nice selection of craft beers in reusable bottles. I ordered a red and a pale ale. The pale was really nice. A family member really liked the red. The staff member who served me was very knowledgeable. I believe there's talk about them enlarging. Don't go too big. It's really charming to see this little place so popular!

Manufacturers of quality outdoor & kitchen knives. Located in beautiful downtown Pictou, Nova Scotia by the Pictou Harbour and the Tall Ship Hector (Hector Heritage Quay). Offering free factory tours with some restrictions. Factory outlet shopping with discounted, scratch-n-dent items at half price, plus much more. Related items for sale in the gift shop such as kitchen gadgets, lobster tools, souvenirs and more.
Just wanted to say that our experience with service at the Grohmann factory store was extremely positive. The young man who worked there was helpful in terms of the knives, but more impressively, when we asked about the history of the store, he was really knowledgeable and seemed proud to recount what he knew. We left with a beautiful paring knife, happy to support Canadian small industry.

Ample parking. Public internet access.
This modern centre has a variety of events, and we were fortunate the night we were there to have local dance and music performed. We heard the tremendously talented Fleur Mainville and others, and had a great time.

This beach has a great boardwalk to get to the beach. The water is so warm for swimming and theres also a sand bar at low tide. This beach is not used as much as some of the others in the area so it never seems to get over croweded.
This is a wonderful spot to relax for an afternoon!

As other reviewers have stated, the lighthouse is located about 10 kilometres (six miles) off Trunk 6. It's kind of nice to see a lighthouse from a land perspective as opposed to seaside which is more usual for us.

It is as the title says, a Log Church. It is a replica of the church that the Scots attended when they were first here. It is still used a few times a year, with services in Gaelic. If you visit the ship Hector and the Quay, you MUST visit this site as well (a 10 minute drive). It connects everything together. A worthwhile drive, plus it's a picturesque drive as well).
