Makrigialos Beach

Reviewed By David D - Perth, United Kingdom

Very close to Villea village where we stayed. The beach runs around a bay all the way to the village in the west. Plenty of space and lots of places you can do your own thing. Further near the village there are small tavernas with adjacent sunbeds you can use if you eat and drink there. Water is very clean and safe for kids but it is a long walk out to get out of your own depth!

Vreiko Cave

When you've descended the steps into the main well of the cave there are two alternatives. The left path is a steep slippery dark descent for which you need to be fully equipped with boots and lights. To the right it's easier. There are lots of stalacmites and stalactites to see

Kapsa Monastery

Reviewed By Rūta A - Vilnius, Lithuania

We came here after our Pervolakia gorge hike. A beautiful cozy monastery, church, beautiful yard. Worth to visit. Also we hiked up to the cave where a saint Gerontoyiannis used to live. Peaceful and nice place (we have visited in the begining of April in the evening so there were no other visitors).

Achlia Beach

Reviewed By Voyagelicious - Boston, Massachusetts

This is a long, sandy beach with a few small pebbles as you enter. Depending on the current, sometimes the waves create a little "step" as you enter, but we saw people of all ages handling it without problems.
If you swim a little further out, you are by yourself and the waters are almost always crystal clear. You can sea small fish even without a snorkel. If you enjoy snorkeling, the two edges of the beach have a few rocks and are ideal for this activity.
There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent at a reasonable price. There is also a cantina and a restaurant for drinks and meals and free parking.

Evdokia, our pirate ship, shall depart from the small, wind-protected port of Makrys Gialos in Ierapetra. Makrys Gialos is a lovely seaside village, 38 kilometers south of Siteia, and 25 kilometers east of Ierapetra, in the southeastern part of the prefecture of Lasithi.

Reviewed By Richard D - The Hague, The Netherlands

On the south east coast of Crete there is an island called Koufonisi. The excursion is with a bus from your hotel and you are being transported on a 'pirate ship'. There is a lot of attention to small kids and they are being entertained and they get pirate swords made of baloons, makeup to make them look like a pirate. The ship sails to a bay where you can get to make your first swim/dive. You stay there for about 30 min. After that you sail on to the next stop and you will stay there for a long while (2-3 hours). You can choose to be on the beach. A boat will take you from the pirate ship to the beach and if you want to go back you need to be next to a flag placed on the beach. Snorkling is great here. Make sure you have got some nice gear and you will really enjoy it as there is a lot of fish and squids. On the way to the island we also saw a sea turtle. Unfortunately the turtle was dead. We had a great day and recommend it absolutely. Make sure you got sun tan with you as the sun is very hard and a sun burn is easy to get because you are on the water.

Lagoufa Beach

Reviewed By trace42 - Finland

Nice sandy hotel beach. The sea was warmer than the pools at our hotel. You have to go through the O.B.C. hotel area to get to the beach. There were no signs forbidding going through. Showers and toilet on the beach. Sun chair rental and two snackbars on the beach. The beach has shallow water and sand bottom. Some fishes and rocks at either end of the beach. Good for sun lovers with small kids.
