Its a pity that the nummer one experience in Karlstad closes at four and re-opens at eleven next morning Unfriendly opening hours! Otherwise we would have had a chance to visit the exposition.

Mariebergsskogen is Karlstad City Park. It was a gift to the City of Karlstad in 1896 from Dr Conrad Höök. Visit the farm animals in Lillskogen, the Play Garden and Naturum Värmland. Mariebergsskogen has good food, lovely cafées and great ice cream. And lots of space for swimming and outdoor life - very close to the city centre. Free admission, free parking, open dayily all year round.
Mariebergsskogen offers plenty to do. Walks, also with dogs, Playgrounds that are nicely equipped, animals to look at. Our family's best experience was the 1,5 hours walk around the wetland/lake on boardwalks. You go past a boat pier where the local "boat bus" arrives every hour, in case you want to venture further. Nice walk for the adults, our 2 year old toddler and our dogs.

An
We where here with the whole family, a four year old and a two year old. For our kids this was a scary museum with not much to experience for them.
For the adults this was an interesting museum even though we both are pacifists :). The concept with a timeline of the cold war that you walk thrue was very interesting. The guns, bombs and killing machines was on the otherhand nothing for us.

The birthplace of one of Sweden's great poets, Gustav Fröding, is well worth a visit. Especially so in summertime. The grand old white mansion, with the surrounding traditional Swedish redcoloured buildings is a beautful place. You get to see the hose and learn more about the poet and his life.
Then mansion also features a nice, traditional giftshop and a quiet café. In the summer there is plenty of space to take a break in the lovely garden overlooking Sweden's largest lake; Vänern. I would recommend this place to older people or someone interested in literature history. It is not aimed at children or active teenagers.
For me, Reading Gustav Fröding in school and fascinated by his strange life, it was interesting to visit.

Gobbholmen island, next to the bridge, does not have its own listing on tripadvisor. To my experience it is the best place to walk you dogs in Karlstad center area (on leash officially, in reality you see dogs without leashes). A round walk around the island took me less than 30 minutes, but you will meet people and dogs that lengthen your stay.

The city garden. Kind of a Little of beat but still a tranquil Place. Lots of flowers, trees and a very relaxing atmosphere. These day you are probably run into a lot of pokémon gatherers. why not bring a pic nic basket and have a nice time. The garden is getting better every years.

Nostalgic place to visit if you read the inscription on the stone, it is in Swedish. Placed by the motorway makes it accesible by car.
