The tourist information centre told us of the free climb to the top of the Basilica. It was very windy and quite cold, but the views are wonderful looking over the slate roof tops.

As with most of our trips to France, we always check out local, good attractions. This was earmarked very early on as a "Must see!". We weren't disappointed. From working models made from junk, to the finer mechanised ones, we were treated to a real spectacle! This man was so clever. His imagination must be incredible. We walked around the exhibition then went out in to the wackiest garden ever. Lopsided houses, towers with uneven floors, a TV screen in the middle of a wall, that you could deliver a broadcast from! Absolutely amazing! At 6 Euros 50 per person, it's a bargain! (2014 prices)

Guegon’s historic 12th C Romanesque church lies in the centre of the village, and is also the centre of village life - along with the bar and boulangerie! The church is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul. Each July a free fireworks display is held outside the church to celebrate Bastille Day.
Within the grounds are a couple of notable features. There is the Lantern of the Dead, one of just twenty remaining in Brittany, which was once lit at the time of a death and remained so until the day of the burial. There is also a Column of Justice.

This clock is a masterpiece of engineering, and too often overlooked, being tucked away in the quadrangle of the university.
I cannot tell you enough how impressive was the task of designing and building this clock for Father Bernardin, and I have never seen an equal in any gallery or museum.
It is open all year round, and is totally free to see.
There is an explanation of the clock and mechanism available in English, and in February I noticed that they now have electronic display screens too.
You can park a short walk away in the Place de Arms, or try the Place Lamennais both of which are free, or you can take your chances in the Place de la Marie where there is a disc parking scheme in place. Take care - if you have not placed a disc in the windscreen, or set the wrong time, or failed to return in time, you will very quickly get a ticket, even in winter months.
While it is easy to access the clock in a wheelchair, it is in a glass structure which reflects the sun at certain times of day, and may make viewing difficult from a lower position unless you have a companion who can shield the light.
Don't expect thrills here - one of the clock faces (it has many) has hands that only go around the face once every thousand years! However at the back of the clock, and driven by the same mechanism is a model of the solar system (as known in Father Bernadin's day) which operates in real time - even down to the moon rotating around the earth.

Our nursery, created in 1988, has produced hydrangea with passion for almost 30 years! Unique in Europe, our nursery represents over 750 different varieties and 33 acres of fields planted with Hydrangea! For the pleasure of our clients and visitors, since 2012 we have designed Gardens in order for us to present our collection of hydrangea. Furthermore, we propose to our visitors a boutique and a tea shop where you can spend a pleasant moment. We will also be able to taste our hydrangea tea infusion, which I am sure will amaze you! All the varieties, small or big, from 2 to 20 years old are sold at the nursery or on our website, as well as on flower shows.
Have been here often and am always overwhelmed by the wonderful varied display wit most varieties for sale. Good advice offered on growing and keeping too. I have bought some as presents for friends.

The canal tow path in the Rohan area is very well maintained and is wheelchair friendly. The canal banks were full of wild flowers with yellow iris being prolific. Very peaceful walk from St Sampson to Bojus and Gueltas on a quiet Sunday morning was delightful.

Fabulous place. We visited here with friends and their daughter. Wow what a collection there was. The place is not overly big but they had insects and bugs of all kinds and literally dozens and dozens of them. From beetles to lizards, moths to butterflies, locusts, crickets, ants, snakes, you name it ........................... they had it. A very comprehensive collection!

Josselin castle, a visit not to be missed ... Imagine a fairytale castle, whose tree majestic toweres dominate the river below. Concealed behind the massive fortress walls you will find the exquisite, flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance facade of a ducal palace. Here the very history of Brittany was forged. It is a place of legend and magic. Still the home of the Rohan family after 1000 years, in the public rooms restored in the 19th century, you will see a unique collection of furniture and paintings.
The castle is certainly worth a view from inside, as well as outside.
Some might be disappointed as you can only visit the ground floor rooms (the castle is still inhabited today), but the guided tour made is really interesting to visit, if history is your thing.
We opted for the English guided tour, and it was great. Knowledgeable and funny guide.
You will come out of there with new knowledge about Brittany too (which was surprising for me, as I am Breton!)
do not skip the Gardens. They are not on Versailles' scale, but definitely bigger and more interesting than a typical medieval tiny garden (like in Sterling Castle)
Bonus if travelling with kids: they only charge you for one kid if you have 2. (They offer the kid who didn't pay to help out cleaning the dungeon, =) )

Amazing museum, filled with all sorts of interesting exhibits. Spent 4 hours here but could easily have stayed longer. There is a guided tour in French but the guides had some english too and we were given an excellent file with English information on the exhibits. The tour was informative and included plenty of humour too. Staff were very friendly. Good for children over the age of about 8 years too. Highly recommended and I would visit again. Thank you to the owners and staff for a most enjoyable and memorable visit.

Hortensias (or hydrangeas) are the floral emblem of Brittany, and this unique garden puts on a great display of over 5500 hortensia plants. The different colours, shapes and sizes of so many flowers are amazing. The garden has a lovely, easy and wheel-chair friendly circuit of about 3 km along the side of Le Lac du Duc (the Duke's Lake) a few km north of the centre of the historic town of Ploermel. There are toilets, parking and picnic tables in the park. The best time to see the flowers in full bloom is June to September.
