I've been frequenting Pizza Verde for some years, with gaps in between. It changed hands a year ago, and while there have been a few changes to the menu and decor, the new owner clearly wants to maintain the atmosphere and the approach to dining.
PV is decorated in a self-consciously retro-grunge - this could be Northcote if you didn't know, with formica tables, exposed brickwork, visible pizzaioli doing their thing, and a chalked specials menu. Pizza is thin crust, with a regular set of appetizing toppings - not THE regular set of Australian ones from the sixties although there is now a "Hawaiian" - and weekly specials. There are a few other dishes for appetizers but the emphasis is on pizza.
There is a brief wine list and a better set of beers from local Breweries. All in all a good option for a relaxed evening in the country.

The Albion is a meeting place. As you walk in the door you will see locals sitting around the bar or around the fire in animated conversation.
A little further in is the dining room, which also has an open fireplace. Food is fresh, home made and plentiful. You will not walk away hungry!
On some Sundays you can enjoy Irish music. All in all, a warm, welcoming and cosy pub.

We had not been here since Annie Smither's was in the building. The decor and fittings have been refurbished and updated and now has a superb, peaceful ambience. The staff were highly professional yet friendly. Memories of the Lakehouse with former staff member James and a painting by Allan Tasker Wolfe adorning one wall. The food was modern Australian. I had the duck and my husband had the barramundi, both were delicious. The creme brulee was as good as any I've had in Paris. A a nice touch was the Chef's gift of a tasty small bowl of homegrown tomato soup. The wine list is vast and very reasonably priced. The garden out the back has had a makeover and is a lovely spot to either dine in or just sit and relax after your meal or between courses. You will not want to leave. We will be returning on a regular basis. Highly recommend this beautiful regional restaurant.

Relaxed dining in Kynetons' heritage-listed Piper Street. The menu is based around seasonal, quality products sourced locally wherever possible. Little Swallows' innovative and enthusiastic chef regularly updates the specials board, and the menu is changed seasonally.
After a beautiful lunch at one of the local eateries we decided to try somewhere else for coffee and cake. We came across this little cafe - it looked quaint and inviting. I ordered the Date and Walnut Loaf and when it arrived it they sliced the skinniest piece of loaf I ever seen. Infact every time i tried to cut into it - it crumbled as it was so thin. The crumbs tasted nice and the berry jam was delicious. I was very disappointed as the loaf on display was chunky and I expected a normal toast size slice which would have been more flavoursome. If i knew i would have ordered 2 servings of it. Coffee was outstanding so was the service

I always worry about eating Asian cuisine in regional towns. This phobia is based on the 'blanding down' of traditional flavours to suit the local palates.
We tried this joint based on reviews. We were disappointed. Despite asking for additional spice flavours I was informed that they could provide some cut chili but the dishes came as standard (read pre-cooked).
The dahl was incredibly watery and lacked any significant flavour normally associated with the dish - a lack of garlic, onions and chili (& ghee). Disappointing. The fish curry was beautifully fresh (always a risk ordering fish over a long weekend in a country town - so well done team) but sweet (& lacked any spice). Not sure the fish served was green grenadier??
Nothing to rave about here.

Personally I find the coffee here quite bitter but they do always have an interesting range of pastries for which I forgive the coffee. Friendly attentive staff , a great range of produce and small goods. Always busy well trusted by the locals.

Had lunch 23 June. Amazing soup, fabulous food bowl with crispy chicken, and children's meal looked fine and was all eaten - it must have been at least good then! Coffee was excellent, atmosphere a bit industrial but at least it was kid-friendly. Staff were friendly, helpful if young and still learning. But really the food was amazing and the prices good, much better value than around the corner. Recommended.

We were shouted at by waitress for Seating ourselves when no one was around despite being 10+ empty tables - that was a first for us - we actually thought she was joking
She threw the menus at us - so we left we weren’t going to pay to be shouted at shame cos looked like a nice place
