This is ideal for wet and dry weather and for any visitors. The rooms are incredibly important in terms of early 16th century furniture, panelling, paintings, objects, decor and decorative items. There is also an armory. Excellent commentary via English audio guide. Really good value for money as well. There are walks in the grounds as well and a restaurant which was well patronised.
Free car parking and a "train" to transport those less able to walk from the car park to the Schloss.

The gorge has many waterfall and is a pleasant relief from the heat of summer. There are steps, but that does not mean that it is an easy walk. I wore sandals and regretted my decision because there is some rocky and slippery terrain inside and many places in the trail are quite wet. Parking is 4 euros for a day ticket (payable at the machine in the lot) and entry is 4.50 per adult. It is about 45 minutes in each direction with time for admiring and/or photographing the falls. We went in late afternoon after most of the crowds had left (no one was in the ticket booth after 16.00) and had many areas all to ourselves. I could imagine that earlier in the day the crowds might make the trip take a bit longer.

We had visited the Silver mine before but decided to revisit. This visit was far more enjoyable for the following reasons:
The groups were sorted into English speaking or German. This made the commentary so much easier to follow rather than using the translation phones (which are not always easy to get to).
Secondly, the number of people on each carriage on the train had been reduced making it a lot more comfortable to travel on.
The actual trip was very interesting , when visiting take note of the conditions the guys worked in, It is an eye opener.

We did! My wife and our dog...it is 28 km walk around the lake.
We started in Pertisau and did the circle. The village itself is nice and quiet. Than you have walk for ca 7 km ups and downs with lovely view on lake and surroundings. There are some huts on the way, but don't expect anything special. But we want to enjoy the nature!
Many attractions around - cycling, kitesurfing, yachting, running, train for kids. Really lovely day.
Take good shoes and water with you and have a great day!

Another visit to Hochfugen and a wonderful week's skiing that provides excellent facilities for all standards. Good T bar and chair lifts with the appropriate gondolas too so moving up and down is not a problem.

Rattenberg is a small attractive 'village' to spend a few hours. The one main street has plenty of Coffee shops and Restaurants as well as the inevitable souvenir shops, good quality items as well as Glassware shops. Walking behind the main street,we found more quaint Restaurants, and a Church which was very interesting.

We were on the train from Innsbruck to Kitzbuhel when we passed Jenbach and saw an engine shed with interesting old steam locomotives and a big sign,"Achenseebahn." Intrigued, we returned the next day for a look and ending up having one of the most interesting and exhilarating days of our trip to the Tyrolean Alps. The old, narrow-gauge cog railway has been moving tourists up the 4.2 mile track to a beautiful alpine lake (Achensee) for the last 128 years. Over this short distance, it rises nearly 1500 feet.
If you're a railroad buff, you'll want to know that the meter-gauge track features the Riggenbach Rack System and that all 4 coal-burning steam locomotives in the fleet are original, built at the Floridsdorf Locomotivfabrik between 1888-1899. This makes the Achenseebahn the oldest operating steam cog railway in all of Europe.
For the general tourist, it's a novel experience to chug and clank up the steep incline, and the views at the top are spectacular. Once there, you can buy a round-trip ticket on a comfortable, modern lake cruiser (schiff) timed to the train schedule. The 4 boats in the fleet offer good food and drink along with 360 degree views of splendid alpine scenery on this large, blue-green lake. It all adds up to a marvelous day in one of the world's great alpine environments. Read below for more details.
After leaving Jenbach station, the locomotive's cog engages the rack at the first grade with a loud CLANK, and up up up you go. In addition to the normal sounds of a steam locomotive (and impressive coal smoke), you'll hear the clanking of the cog as it continues to engage the rack on its way to the top. You'll pass through Forests with huge evergreens and some nice mountain views in the distance, and you'll make a few stops at small stations along the way to Seespitz on the Achensee.
If you're sitting in a open car (there is also a closed car, used often by tour groups), you'll be treated to the surprising experience of an agile, handsomely-liveried conductor checking your tickets through the window from a narrow wooden walkway OUTSIDE the car while it is moving.
A round-trip tickets costs 29.50 Euros. That may seem like a lot, but not when you consider what it takes to maintain and continuously run 4 authentic steam locomotives built in the 19th century up a steep grade, pulling a couple of cars packed with people, while always ensuring their safety and comfort.
Once at the lakeside station, you can buy roundtrip tickets for one of the 4 lake cruisers (schiffs). Cost for the lake tour is 20 Euros, with a special family price (2 adults, 2 children) for 42 Euros and discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more. Our boat was the Stadt Innsbruck, and like the others it had all the modern comforts, with nicely appointed areas to sit, drink or dine, and of course enjoy the splendid views.
We chose the outdoor Seating at the stern, even though the day started out cloudy and cool. When the sun came out, we were glad to be there, and we enjoyed some wine and pretzels while basking in the Sunshine. Many others sat in the covered deck above us, still others in the inside dining area right near the food service, and a lucky few at several indoor tables located right at the bow, with wonderful views of the lake and Mountains ahead.
All along the way was beautiful alpine scenery. We could see a long, elevated hiking trail cut right into the side of the Mountains, which probably accounts for the large number of hikers getting on and off the boat as it made its tour around the lake. It's a beautiful area, with Beaches, a couple of impressive Waterfalls, some walking/biking trails and quite a number of lodges and guest houses, even on the shore well away from the main tourist town of Seespitz. With more time, we might have spent a night at one of them before returning to Jenbach.
As previously noted, the boat schedule is timed to coordinate with the train schedule. Within minutes of arriving at the station, there will be a boat waiting for you to embark, ditto in reverse on the boat's return to the station. It's all easy and comfortable, with no stress or worry about making connections, and every opportunity to enjoy a pleasant and memorable day in Tyrol.

Easy bus ride from Pertisau. Really quick cable car. About three restaurants at top. Some easyish walks (husband did one) while I soaked up sun on one of the restaurants (shamefully can't remember name!). A rather lovely place with great views of lake Achensee. There is also the mad looking air Rofan whereby people are strapped in to an overhead thing and whizzed from a peak to where the cable car is. Look it up, can't review as didn't do it.

after an undifficult walk trough Wolfsklamm Gorge you can see St. Georgenberg on top of a big rock high above you. what you see on the picture on the left side is not St. Georgenberg, but the monasterry Fiecht, down in the Inn-Valley, since a few centuries the new center of the monks of St. Georgenberg, which is too far away from civilisation even for monks. Nevertheless, great to see, and enjoy good food und scenery in the tavern of St. Georgenberg!

This is a small museum describing how is mineral oil made from the stones ( something like "oilstones" ) - the exhibition is small, detailed, without human guide, it is fully electronic. There is of course a shop offering products with this oil and caffeteria ( in my opinion the best espresso in Pertisau )...
