The most elegant wooden bridge in Japan - Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Iwakuni is about 45 minutes on train from the JR west Hiroshima station. The bridge is accessible from the JR Iwakuni station on bus at a distance of 15 minutes. The bridge is over Nishiki river and offers magnificent views in different seasons with Mount Yokoyama and Iwakuni castle in the backdrop.
The bridge is roughly five meters having a length of two hundred meters with 5 arches.
There is a fee of 300 Yen to cross the bridge.

I visited this castle three times now, and the last time was the most fun. If you just visit it without the plan, like I did for the first time, you see it, and say,"oh, OK", and come home.
There are a few things in this Kintai Bridge area, so I recommend you plan what you do. The highlight of this castle is the top floor, the observation deck. You can see the whole town from there. You also see bunch of swords displayed in the castle. Another highlight is the hike. I recommend to take paved road, instead of paved one, just for ease of walk. If you are able, I definitely recommend hike from the bottom, which is only 1 mile each way. The hike trail starts from the Valley of Red Leaves. I like the hike the most, more than the castle itself. See my other reviews to see what else is around here.

This ropeway offers very good view than I've expected. You can see the Kintai Bridge very good.Usually it departs every 20 minutes , but in high season it departs every 10 minutes.Don't miss the view while riding it ,because view from the ropeway is better than that from the top of the mountain.

I love this little park any time of the year. It's a beautiful area to just walk around and enjoy the trees and the little area with the spectacular green moss all over.
This park is especially gorgeous in the fall as they have many maple trees.
Definitely a must see if visiting the Kintai area!!

The Iwakuni art museum was established to show you the Japanese traditional culture and the Sprit. In the museum, I introduce the Armors of Samurai as "life-and-death culture. " Moreover, various culture which has colored the life of a samurai is introduced as " culture of a life." Probably, this category can make you feel the deep soul nature of a woman of those days. Furthermore, as a "special exhibit", I am introducing the piece that enriched samurai's life for all seasons which are quite unique items. I would be more than satisfied if you can touch the breath of the wonderful soul of Japanese tradition culture by The Iwakuni art museum.
This little gem is located at the base of the mountain, next to the Iwakuni Castle gondola station. Make sure you visit here!
My husband and I really enjoyed the extensive collection of samurai armor. There was even an entire display explaining the symbolism of the helmet designs. Hubby also loved the sword display, whereas I was more partial to the furniture and scroll / artwork displays.
Definitely take the time to check this place out. We were very glad we did.

It is said that if a white snake is found in your home it will bring good fortune. These gentle ivory white snakes with ruby colored eyes can only be found in Iwakuni. This was my second time to Iwakuni and I wanted to see something different. The viewing facility is near Kikko Park. The only sign is written in Japanese. There is a souvenir booth and a small donation will get you a colored handout.
If you are planning to visit Iwakuni, I would visit during springtime when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

Little kids might get scared from the loud music and the dark hallways, but older kids will appreciate the Indiana Jones-style caves and statues. We really liked the underground waterfall! We've visit twice. The first time the treasure hunt game was very easy, the second time we couldn't figure out the game. Be aware that it is about 1000 yen per person, with extra fees if you choose to do gold panning and rock collecting. Consider combing this with Three Falls if you're coming from Iwakuni, as both are sort of in the same direction.
