Second time here in Fenghuang. We were here during the day on our last trip but this time we just had an evening here. Totally a different kind of feeling, romantic, colorful, and beautiful! All the museums were closed by the time we got there so we just walked along the river bank and took endless photos. When all the lights lit up it was just incredibly beautiful! Some stores had good sales but we ended up not buying because of luggage space. Enjoyed our walk very much.

Took the chair lift up the mountain which was very scenic. The top of the mountain was under development but great coffee shop and the kids found a good fried chicken restaurant. Parts of the mountain were very run down, sign posting was confusing and maps didn't make much sense. It's obviously very popular and very glad that we went but be prepared to overlook the run down bits and enjoy the great bits.

Tanhe Ancient City, a city that astonished the world.Utilizing the power of imagination and grandiose narration, it vividly represents the productions and life spaces, the scenes of the emperors and citizens of Ningxiang, and brings back the Bronze Age tracing back 3000 years.
因为有亲戚在炭河附近的黄材镇工作,看亲戚之余顺便来玩玩,来了以后感觉很震撼,科技感满满的,尤其是炭河千古情,姬发和宁妃的爱情故事,看得我眼泪都流出来了。

Just 30min by high speed train from Changsha and abt. 20min by taxi and you reach the yue yang park with its famous tower, which is originally almost 1000years old. Entrance fee is 80rmb. The park is located next to the lake, being the largest Freshwater lake in China. Its worth to spend quite some time walking around enjoying and exploring this ancient park, which is nicely arranged.

After opening a new factory in Hengyang my friends suggested we take an extra day to visit Mt Hengshan. One of 5 great Mountains and spiritual places in China.
Taking a coach from Hengyang the travel time was around 1 hr. The entrance fee of RMB180 which included a bus ride from the entrance to the cable car mid point. We queued for 20 mins which I thought for a Friday wasn't too bad. The cable car is designed to hold 40 guests so it can be a little congested but I cheap thrill as the cable car speeds up over the first two pillions. At the top of the cable car you are then faced with a 2900m walk to the summit.
Being late Feb I was surprised to see extensive snow on all the trails. The locals will offer walking sticks for around RMB20 and woven rattan style snow shoes for RMB5 which does help with keeping a good footing and your feet dry. The ascent can be a little tricky with the snowy and icy conditions. It's quoted as a 30 min hike but we found in these conditions it was more like an hour. For those less inclined a Sherpa service will carry you to the top for approx RMB200 depending upon your negotiation skills.
The summit is spectacular and worth the effort but it was certainly cool the day we went and you do need to rug up warm. On the descent you can negotiate a bobsled to run you down for around RMB60 and great fun for the kids. I will certainly plan to return in the summer months but suggest the following tips:
1. Go mid week and go early and leave early. We found after 4pm the queue for the return cable car was very crowded and you could wait over an hour.
2. Wear comfortable and good walking shoes. It always amuses me to see local ladies wearing high heel shoes walking up Mountains.
3. Take your own bottled water and tissue paper. None of the toilets provide toilet paper.
Certainly Well worth the effort. Enjoy!

This is where former Mao lived during his childhood years before he left this farmer house in his late teens/ early twenties to get involved in revolution activities.
His father is supposedly quite a well to do farmer who lived in shao shan. Inside this house you get to see the living conditions of their rooms, farm, kitchen back in those days. Quite a cool place to visit.
Mao had always wanted to return to shao shan to spend his retirement years back in home town. He had a retirement apartment in dripping water cave but due to politic reasons he did not manage to fulfill his last wish to stay there . He died in the capital city instead .

Arrived at ZJJ's Hehua Airport early morning to go to Wulingyuan (our hotel is in wulingyuan). Do check with your hotel if they provide airport transfer services. It should cost around 200Yuan to go straight to Wulingyuan (and i suggest you take a cab).
so we arrived in airport, exited, lots of private taxi and 1 shuttle bus. the shuttle bus seems to go to ZJJ city. we pay 220Yuan for the taxi to wulingyuan. it is about 45 mins drive.
Next day, we went to ZJJ national park. ticket price is 250Yuan/pax for 4 day entry. It is not transferable, they will tag your finger print to the card when you enter.
Recommend to stay in Wulingyuan town to access the ZJJ national park as you are able to walk into the national park - 15 mins walk.
Don't expect much from the town. there is no nightlife or what. even finding food can be difficult (i speak mandarin myself) if you are already bored with chinese food. no pizza, there are bakeries around.
In the town there is a bus station which serves buses to phoenix town, Changsha, zjj etc...

Phoenix Ancient Town has a few characteristic Bridges, and Hong Bridge is the most famous and photogenic when lit up at night. That bridge reminded me of another photogenic bridge in Florence, Italy “Ponte Vecchio”. The shops on that bridge in Florence sold gold jewellery. This one didn’t have any theme for the shops… just touristy things. But this tourist was not interested in any of that. I enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and fabulous scenery though.
Happy Travelling!
