This landmark church building is now in use as a huge exposition center for art work. The church is even part of the Dutch 'museum card' (museumkaart; costs about 60 euro's for a year) with which you can visit museums in almost every town of Holland.

Egmond has a nice wide beach to walk. However, the dunes are not very high here. You can see the roofs of homes and hotels over the dunes. Quite different in that respect from Zandvoort or Ijmuiden. The place has a typical touristy feel to it, but it is enjoyable. Several nice beach cafe's on the beach, which were open although it was the middle of the winter. All in all, an enjoyable beach to visit.

A now mature woodland was planted in the 18th century as a setting for""buiten"" NIJENBURG HOUSE.
Despite being crossed by the railline and""KENNEMERSTRAATWEG""PROVINCIAL ROAD solitude can be found among the ancient oaks and beech trees.
The natural area is protected by ""NATUURMONUMENTEN"" and a 20 walk from both HEILOO and Alkmaar railway station.
On WESTERWEG in the North west section of the wood , Kwekerij Meijer offers a wide range of ornamental garden plants

The woodland and dune-area west of Castricum are a protected natural area.Tickets can be bought at the ticket-vending machines at several locations. There are many nesting cormorants and other water-fowl near the lakes in the dunes.
I enjoyed the free museum "De HOEP" offering some stuffed animals and interesting literature about the natural area. The shop of "De Hoep" offers a large selection of books on wildlife.

I met with a group of English-speaking friends and a couple toddlers for this interesting tour. We began with warm drinks and a presentation by Ellen in her art studio. The best part was then going through the greenhouse and seeing all of the technology...MoreThank you for your kind words. I love to tell the people about Tulips and the process of growing. Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, which opened in 1875, is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The museum manages the Alkmaar City Council collection, with more than 12,000 objects. I was expecting a bit of a bore of a museum, sort of a red headed stepchild housing the back of the closet items of of the parent museum in Amsterdam. I cheerfully admit, I was totally and unexpectedly wrong. The “Victorie” exhibition of the...MoreThank you so much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed our museum. I enjoyed the peaceful butterfly Gardens for half an hour(free entrance) and the candle-food-shop.The 10th century medieval Monestery ruins were demolished in the 19th century and the Benedictushof was rebuild 1933.
Fragments of the medieval monestery of Egmond Binnen are on display at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and are the oldest medieval fragments in that museum.
Nearby Cut-flower garden" PLUKTUIN BAKKUM"is worth a look for half an hour if open.
