I was doing nothing over the weekend in Jakarta and decided to visit Mt. Papandayan because I read wonderful things about it. It takes 5-6 hours by bus to reach there. From the bus station, it takes around an hour to reach the Camp david(Base for the trek). I had to pay IDR 3,00,000 which IMHO is too much. The place is pretty awesome. I didn't have a guide but followed the map and asked people around for directions. The major attractions will be Danau, Hutan Mati and the Edelweiss plantations.

Located in Pamengpeuk on the south coast of the Garut Regency, West Java, the beach has white beach and wonderful scenery. Waves are quite strong and makes it rather difficult to swim. The biggest concern is, though, both locals and visitors do not seem to care at all about hygiene and cleanliness. Trash can just be seen on every corner. What a waste of the natural beauty.

I went there in the afternoon on a weekday. Love it!! Not many people, and the price was dirt cheap.
Good quality and clean water. The weather was cool, like 16-18 degree. So it felt nice when you dip in the pool.
People in Indonesia still pee in the pool, too bad, so I just chose the one with less people.
Don't compare it with hot Springs in Japan (comfort, clean, etc). But you can be sure the water quality is among the best in the world.
I wore two pieces swimsuit (not bikini), but it was too much skin to show for people over there. Most women wore hijab and they dip in fully clothed. Well.. I don't care. I was underwater most of the times anyway.
Avoid weekend.

The crater blows a lot of hot water and sulfphur. Most of the hot water is used for geothermal energy, but there is enough to visit. This is not the most interesting volcan of Java, but you can see another aspect of the volcanism, when you are on the way from Bandung to Garut

Well, the title I guess is self-explanatory. My wife and our three little girls enjoyed the raft crossing the lake to reach the temple much more than exploring the temple since perhaps it is only one and very small.
The traditional houses inside the compound are attractive. Make sure you got yourself and families photographed in front of this old houses.

The wave was crazy. I guess the surfers will love it. However, there were lots of warning for people not to swim on the beach.
The craziest thing is how to get there. Since, we were driving from Bandung via Pengalengan, the road was crazy, it was like riding rollercoaster. Prepare yourself if you car sick.

Mount Cikuray is hard to forget. about 7 hours sweaty trekking, where the knee often meets the chest.
from Jakarta you can reach Garut in 3-6 hours, then proceed to Cikajang or Bayongbong or Cilawu, depends on where you want to start your trekking. Cilawu track, or well known as Pemancar is more famous among others. make sure you are in a fit condition, and bring sufficient water supply. hiking on weekends (go up on saturday, down on sunday) isn't really recommended because it tends to get very crowded.
have fun and stay save.

I love this beach more than santolo. It is quiet and has a very long line. So we can choose our own spot without bothered too much with other people. At noon, the water usually shrinking so we can walk to the sea much further without worry. There are many stone with small creatures, and many clamp shells.

Access from Garut takes about 2 hours. No public transport, you need car or ojek (motorcycle taxi). Have not tried the public sulphur baths on the way. The 1-hour trail from the valley to the lake (1.700m altitude) is fine. Unfortunately, the subsequent trail to the crater rim (2.200m) is not well maintained, steep and difficult to climb, it takes approx. 3 hours. Still, overall a worthwile experience.
