Top 10 Things to do in Frederikshavn, Denmark

September 3, 2017 Major Galusha

This bustling transport hub, site of the terminal for ferries to and from Norway, is a city of 25,000. Primarily a hectic ferry port and shopping pit stop, it's popular with Swedes and Norwegians, who visit to stock up on appealingly priced meat and alcohol. If you miss your ferry or tire of edible and potable on-shelf options, visit Bangsbo Museum, an open-air attraction full of 18th-century buildings, 14th-century ruins, antique farm equipment and handicrafts created from hair and WWII relics.

I was doing the Atlantic wall and had to catch a boat to Sweden in the afternoon. Spent 3 hrs here looking round. Great view of the coast and city of Frederkishavn from a superb gem. Would be good if they could open more of the bunkers to go inside but lack of cash stops them. Lets hope they manage it in the future. Yes I would go back for a 2nd look

This garden will develop into something spectacular, but as it was in April 2017 it was more like in the start. Also, the time of the year did not pay full justice to the garden. It is a great addition to the museum and the lovely surroundings in the area.

Eagle World

I´ve had the honor of watching falcons and eagles at close range in a unique setting situated in northern Denmark. It´s founder Frank Wenzel is an internationally acclamied nature photographer and expert on birds-of-prey with a unique ability to get close to and gain the confidence of the birds.
The Eagle World is at present run by Franks son Peter. At the Eagle World you meet the birds more on their terms than ours. As they themselves mention at the Eagle World it is somewhat a case of trading places since we, the humans, are put in a confined space and the birds are flying and walking around amongst us freely. From my point of view the key to this experience is a strong and deep relation between the bird and its handler. Which, also to me, becomes very obvious during the hour we get to see the birds. Don´t miss this if you have the possibility and are even the slightest bit interested and fascinated by nature and animal-life. It certainly caught an old hardrock-bassplayers attention :-)
