We arrived in time for a presentation on these extraordinary artworks. The detail in each of them is amazing. The incredible number of hours so many people contributed to these make them a brilliant community project to be appreciated by all who see them. The pioneer village, museum and fabulous gift shop all contribute to make this well worth adding to your itinerary.

Liffey Falls

I did the Liffey falls track walk (at the fork on the gravel road take the left) which is signposted to be 3hrs return, however at a faster pace it only took me 1.5hrs. The walk is well maintained with slight inclines and declines, nothing too demanding. The falls are beautiful and definitely worth a visit. The drive in is on windy gravel roads which was a little scary, however in dry weather it should be fine.

Ducked into this Information Centre twice during our stay in Deloraine. On both occasions found helpful friendly volunteer staff. The centre also has some wonderful displays; Yarns exhibit, statute of the mighty horse Maluca, a back verandah with great views of the Quamby Bluff and the western tiers. There is also a souvenir shop and a good selection of postcards. One of the better Visitor/Information centres.

Deloraine & Districts Folk Museum

The Folk Museum was opened as the Family & Commercial Inn in 1863. Today it reflects the life of the country publican and his family. Also housed in extensive Gardens is the Pioneer Walk, where you can view reproduction and reclaimed heritage buildings showcasing the lives, tools and farming equipment of early settlers.

This museum is better than the average small town museum. It is located as part of the town's tourist information building. There are a number of recreated early settler buildings outside and inside an old inn has been refurbished. The museum entry includes entry to the Yarns an audio visual display of the towns tapestries which tell the story of Deloraine through the seasons.

Deloraine Creative Studios

Reviewed By Gisele H - Sydney, Australia

We visited the DCS late afternoon on a week day. This contemporary space is home to artists and crafts people creating within their own open plan studios/booths. There is something for everyone here from paintings, sculptures, jewellery, woodcraft and weaving. DCS is open 7 days a week but not sure what times and we couldn't find that info on their website. Deloraine offers many shops and spaces showcasing local artisians so if that's your interest it's well worth a visit. We also loved the fun little sculptures dotted around the main streets.

Elemental Artspace

Reviewed By Seekerofknowledge

Deloraine has reinvented itself from an agricultural town to a centre for arts and crafts, and Elemental Artspace is a prime example of what can be accomplished. It's not dealing with a specific art niche, but rather is a constantly changing collection of arts and crafts. The only constant is a quilting section offering materials for sale and courses in various aspects.
But the majority of the space (a "retail" floor and two gallery levels) is a collection of creations from local artists. And, when we were there, it is a very eclectic collection. There were animals made from laser-cut metals, chopping blocks made from recycled wood from a demolished primary school, natural wood walking sticks, and an "unplayable" musical instrument like a cross between a harp and a denuded piano!
This place is definitely worth a visit, if for no other reason to see what new items have turned up.
