This stunning Moroccan city in the Rif Mountains was originally built as a fortress in the 15th century. The mountains towering over Chefchaouen resemble a pair of goat’s horns, and, perhaps not coincidentally, the creamy native goat cheese is one of the most popular regional treats. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the Jewish-inspired blue-tinted buildings, octagonal mosque and Spanish ruins.

Of course the blue buildings here are what it is all about and steal the show! The meandering streets make the medina area ideal to wander and take far too many photographs. It’s easy, not crowded and no hassle. Little ones can walk without issue in and around the streets.

We have been to the Niagara Falls, Shoshone Falls and Mesa Falls, Yosemite Falls and Akchour Falls. I would say Akchour is one of its kind. The end to end walk from the car park area and back would take 4 to 4.5 hours with normal walking speed. There are few switchbacks and you definitely need a local guide to navigate the way. We got our guide from the hotel we stayed and the guide was very understanding and swift and knew the exact way. You need to cross several streams of river, several grasslands and rocky and pebbles patch too. There is a small Akchour fall you get just after walking for an hour and then after another hour you will reach the main akchor fall. The natural pool of Akchour stands out and the environment is calm as not many people go there in December. It is easier to get as many snaps you want and in varying angles. There is a bench where one can rest. Would recommend carrying snacks as there is only one shop that you find along the way. There are stray dogs on the way but if you bend down as if you are picking a stone, they will go away. It is difficult to imagine the waterfall with the pool if you have not seen one yourself. The photos on the web do not do justice. The only disappointment was the human excreta around the natural pool area. Its tempting to remove shoes and dip your feet into the natural pool but remember you may sight something funny and your experience may dampen. Suggest wearing shoes at all times.

The centre of Chefchaouen, cafes, restaurants, souks, the Kasbah. What a lovely place and nice people. It is like stepping back in time, gone is the high pressure selling of Marrakech and Fes. Instead we have a lovely, unique medina with genuine people. We were slightly off season and I imagine that made a huge difference, no where near as busy as I"d anticipated, or maybe Chefchaouen hasn't been spoilt by tourists yet. No matter what, I hope it can maintain in unique and specialness into the future.

The price is cheap (10 dirham). However, the descriptions are in Arabic or Spanish only in the museum...in the tower you have also French...at least you can have a view of the city. It would be better if they can put English or propose audio guide...the prison is an empty room with no description. The garden is okay but nothing extraordinary...we spent no more than 20 minutes in total... unfortunately like some others places in Morroco they could make the experience a lot better but they did not properly manage to show their history to tourists...

We purchased 2 rugs from this place. They were so friendly and accommodating. We had our rugs shipped via DHL, but they have been stuck in Tangier for a Clearance Event for over a week, saying they need more information from the shippers. Does anyone know how I can get ahold of the shop? I see a phone number which I will try and call, but if anyone has an email address that would be preferable. Thanks in advance!

We were recommended by a friend to visit Chefchaouen and I'm so glad we did. It's a stunning little town, with every street worthy of a photo! If you decide to visit Chefchaouen I highly recommend you book through Fez city tours and ask for Mohammed. Mohammed was an amazing host, safe driver, a wealth of knowledge and his friendly nature made us feel right at home! We couldn't have asked for anything more. My boyfriend and I also booked our Fez day tour through this tour company and it exceeded expectations. Our guide Abdul was born and raised in Fez and took us to some of the most interesting attractions, eateries and little markets that only a true local would know.

We recently had the pleasure of taking part in this amazing experience which involved a very scenic and culturally enlightening tour. The best part was the night in the tent in the desert under the stars. Hamid, our driver, was very friendly and accommodating, taking time to explain things and went out of his way to make sure we were informed and had a lonely honeymoon.

This store is unbelievably adorable and pleasurable for the senses. On the ground floor one is met with a range of scents (musk, jasmine, etc.) and an array of colors. The soaps and other scented products are carefully laid out as if it were a candy store. On the first floor other traditional Moroccan products are sold, but I found it much less interesting. You can feel free to take a look around or take some beautiful pictures without being pushed to purchase anything, although it will be very tempting.
