Relaxed and small dive school at Kyrinia North Cyprus. PADI tec rec and TDI dive centre.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Fabulous people, fabulous place just perfect for any age, families, couples, groups. The team are all very professional and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was very easy to organize our activities around the family and those who weren't diving were more than happy to enjoy all the sea and snorkeling. Great food and service too makes this a really wonderful day out. I would hesitate to go back.

During our trip to Cyprus we took time to visit Saint Hilarion Castle on the Northern coast of the island overlooking Kyrenia.
The castle is quite extensive. being spread over several layers encompassing the outer ward, the lower ward and the upper ward where the Royal apartments are located.
You need to be moderately fit to climb to the top, but it's worth the effort because the views from the top are breathtaking. Expect to spend a few hours here and take water with you on the climb.
Refreshments and toilets are available in the cafe at the base of the castle,

A truly bizarre and captivating myth has been woven here. A colourful house well kept by the Turkish army who hand you a booklet about the house (in exchange for your passport and an entrance fee) and walk you around explaining the treacherous and deceptive life that owner lived. But is any of it true? Byron Pavlides the supposed owner did live here, but he was a car salesman and not an arms smuggler (responsible as they tell you of the massacre of Turkish Cypriot civilians). Mafia links everywhere and Freemason symbols are introduced to you to convince you of a darker side to him. It's Fake news. All of it. Fabricated.
Is ALL that we see and seem
But a dream within a dream?

Abtei von Bellapais Bellapais Abbey
The monastery is just a five minute gentle uphill walk from the coach park. As you approach the ruins you cannot help being impressed by the gothic architecture. Take time to walk amongst the ruins and soak up the tranquil atmosphere, you can see why the monks built their monastery here. There are stairwells and passageways that allow you to ascend to the upper levels where you will have commanding views of the local countryside all the way down to the coast.

A bar that is also a DVD store. Massive range of movies & TV series.
The owner, Cemal, has over 20,000 movies and TV series on his database and can always get the latest releases.
Always shows Premier League games (although as a the #1 Tottenham bar in North Cyprus, Spurs are always first choice). Great match day atmosphere and beer is cheap too!
Plus it is a NON SMOKING bar. Lovely south facing garden too.

Mostly in reasonable condition, the castle overlooks the old harbour of Kyrenia. One can walk round most of the walls, but it is neccesary to climb down to the courtyard, and up again, to complete the circuit. Also contains the shipwreck museum, and rooms in both the Lusignan & Venetian Towers.

Follow the road west towards Kyrenia, and then turn down the road towards the Mare Monte hotel. This was originally a city site, but much of it is under Turkish army control, so only the fish tanks can be visible. They are interesting to see, although difficult to find, but when looking at them it's easy to imagine the Romans catching fish and keeping them fresh in the ponds.

We visited here whilst on holiday and spent a couple of hours wandering around this house that showed the style of the 1960's house built by the Greek Cypriot Paulides, lawyer to Archbishop Makarios and Mafia member. The rooms are just as he left them and there are many original features. It is situated in an army base so you will need passports and the entry fee is paid with a credit/debit card only. There is a café in the grounds too which wasn't open when we visited unfortunately
