It is a strange thing but in the heartland of coffee growing, it is not easy to find a good coffee shop. Bedudal Cafe staff have been looking after western tourists for decades and they know the area backwards. Their advice and knowledge is worth far more than the cost of the coffee and I would encourage anyone new to the area to make a b-line for this spot and talk to the friendly staff.

European style cafe/bistro restaurant serving freshly cooked internationsal and local Indonesian cuisine, in the centre of the popular tourist destination of Bukittinggi, Indonesia. This is the place to go in Bukittinggi to enjoy a memorable meal out at very reasonable cost. If you want to know more about the food, Nita, the cafe owner will arrange a private cooking class for you, so that you can enjoy Indonesian cuisine once you get home.
We went to Turret cafe as vegetarians, unsure of whether we'll be able to find vegetarian food in Bukittinggi. The menu here has many Western dishes, but we wanted Indonesian dishes, so we requested the owner Anita if she can make sayur lodeh, a vegetable coconut curry and sambal eggplant, neither of which are on the menu. She said sure, and although she didn't have any eggplant in the kitchen, sent her son to buy some. We had the most delicious onion soup, sayur lodeh, and sambal eggplant here. We came back the next night and had another great meal, but unfortunately Anita was out of town the following two nights. The food takes some time to arrive, but that's because it's prepared completely from scratch. If you are in Bukittinggi, you won't go wrong if you come here everyday.

Just arrived when fish was coming from the BBQ. The restaurant serves a great pandang choice of dishes. We had the BBQ fish and squid. It was delicious, perfectly flavored and still warm. The taste was sweet and little sour, with a very little spicy. Also choose some of the delicious side dishes. We had a full meal for a good price and perfectly fresh. A good place to spend some time at noon.

Specializes in Padang Peranakan food, it is a mixed between traditional "Minang" delicacies and Chinese "Peranakan" (Chinese immigrants who come to Indonesian archipelago during the Colonial era) home cooking style. We pick the freshest ingredients that we find in local markets. We promise you will experience an unique taste with the recipes that have been in our family for generations.
This restaurant offer Padang food but from the taste and cooking style like Padang peranakan food. The food was excellent it was great experience in west sumatera culinary. The fried chiken is the best, crispy and the spice were great. The papaya leaf in coconut gravy also great. Recommended for culinary in it fine taste hunter.

TARUKO caferesto is not just a regular cafe and restaurant, but a dining place with natural atmosphere located in the middle of terraces rice fields in Emerald green of Sianok canyon. The fresh mountain air will make visitors feel comfortable and relaxed. In addition to serving delicious traditional Minangkabau Cuisine, Indonesian food, Chinese food, Thai food, Indian food and Western food, TARUKO caferesto also has a beautiful garden, a small swimming pool for kids and children's playground. Gurgling sound of water flowing in the crystal-clear river at the edge of the restaurant will accompany you enjoying the dishes served in interesting and friendly way.
As others have noted, this place is a bit out of town and well worth the drive! The views in every direction are exceptional. GREAT place for breakfast even though I was not enthralled with the special Taruko coffee. The banana pancake was delicious and other dishes ordered by our Indonesian (Balinese) friend were also really good. Most of all, though, the setting cannot be beat!

We intentionally visit this place despite the fact that it's not even lunch time yet, with the expectation that the taste would be better (to the very least) than its branch in Jakarta.
But, at least to my standard and taste, I prefer the Sate that's served by its branch in Jakarta. I couldn't really tell what's the difference beside the taste...
Personally quite disappointed, especially after the very high expectation.

A traditional meal of Padang, with a very huge portion. It will gives you the rice with a combinations of condiments and you need to choose whether you would like to add Chicken, Egg, Beef, Liver, etc .... great for sharing and it taste really good. It was not very spice so those that does not realy like spicy foods still find this very good while you could add sambal if you thing that the level of spiciness does not meet your expectations and they said the sambal was geat. Do try :)

This might be the third time I dined here. The taste was consistently good. For me, the foods were not only tasty, buy also lighter compared to other Padang foods. This resto also provided VIP room with AC. The price was reasonable as well. Whenever you are in Padang, Lamun Ombak should be one of your top cullnary destinations.

Bagoes Cafe is not only a place to eat in Maninjau, but is actually also a guesthouse. And a great one!
We stumbled upon the guesthouse after having a look at some other places, which were all outdated, lacked maintenance or just had a bad vibe all over. Amidst all these places Bagoes was just a breath of fresh air! We immediately felt at home in this laidback and welcoming place. The owners, Jack and Vivi, are great people.
The rooms are simple but clean and good value, the Bagoes cafe serves some tasty dishes (like the rendang and vegetable curry) prepared by Vivi. The views from it's balcony from which to enjoy all this treats, are simply unbeatable.
We planned on staying 1 night but ended up staying four. The whole area of Maninjau has lots to offer and is stunning, so you won't get bored to easily. Highly recommended!
