Visited the China Garden this week with some friends – this has been their family's favourite Chinese restaurant in Vlaardingen for years, so I was looking forward to the visit and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is situated on the upper floor of an old building, right on the edge of the river and there are photographs in the restaurant showing the ground floor well underwater when the river floods but thankfully not too often in recent years.
The menu is pretty extensive with several set banquets and a good selection of all the usual favourites. To start we ordered
Pansit Goreng – deep fried wontons (4.00)
Mini Loempias – 4 small spring rolls (5.00)
Sieuw Mai – 4 steamed dumplings filled with minced pork (4.50)
Jai Li Ko – small samosa like filo pastry triangles, filled with slightly curried meat (4.00)
For the main course we had
He Tjao ngau yuk - Fillet steak with a black pepper and garlic sauce (23.50)
Babi Pangang Spek – sliced crispy fried pork served on a bed of atjar tjampoer salad with a delicious sauce (17.00)
China Garden Bami – a selection of vegetable, chicken satay and beef dishes served with thick bami noodles (19.50)
Da Pin Pam – 2 types of roast pork, the babi pangang spek and and some roast “sour” pork, with two large battered shrimps (19.50)
All dishes were served with a choice of boiled or friend rice or noodles.
China Garden offers a fairly small range of the usual ice cream Deserts, so we chose the Dame Blanche, vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce (4.75), Coupe Yellow Lady, vanilla ice cream served with advocaat (5.75) and a coupe hazelnoot, ice cream topped with cream and chopped hazelnuts (4.75)
To drink we had a sparking water (2.50), a fresh orange (3.90), a couple of beers (2.65 ea) and four glasses of wine at 3.50 each.
Everyone agreed that they really enjoyed dinner, with each dish being full of flavour. Would say that the quality of the food is not “Chinese haute cuisine” but certainly above average. The portions for all the dishes were absurdly huge [ positive comment :-) ], each one being more than enough to satisfy two people. I noticed several tables were having the remains of their dinner packed up as take aways.
With a total bill of 142.70 for four people and given the huge size of the main courses and Deserts, I thought China Garden was excellent value for reasonable quality food.

Came with my wife on the basis that one of the chefs had worked previously at a small favourite of ours (now unfortunately closed, The Bistro in Maassluis) and were pleasantly surprised.
The food was still delicious - individually prepared and beautifully presented. What surprised us was the excellent service - attentive and friendly. And the place itself which was a small quiet space - not stuffy but quite intimate.
The previous correspondent that complained of small portions was being a little unfair. This isn't a place for ribs & fries. It's a quiet friendly place with excellent food.
Highly recommended!

The restaurant is conveniently located in the historic centre just opposite the “Visbank”, the former fish auction built in the 18th century. The area around the restaurant was recently renovated and made pedestrians only (spring 2013). There are many café’s around with terraces which makes it a popular and lively hangout for locals, particularly in summer.
Restaurant Delphi also has a small Terrace with about 6 small tables.
Inside the restaurant has two levels which both were pretty crowded when the place was visited so advance booking maybe required. On some nights there is live Greek music but that seems to be on one floor only so decide what you want. Check the website of the restaurant for details or ask when you visit the place.
This restaurant has been on this location for many years in its originally setting. The quality has been maintained for all these years.
The restaurant has partitions everywhere so you can sit reasonably private.
Service was friendly and efficient. When you arrive you will get a welcome drink (Ouzo) and some bread with spread.
On Friday and Sunday they serve a “Greek Table” (min. 2 pers.) which was my selection when I visited. This was a good deal with three courses of very good food, more than you can eat.
With wine and coffee to finish, the bill was a reasonable € 60,- for two ($ 80,- / September 2013)
And with the bill you will get a last drink on the house, a sort of sangria.

Very good restaurant in Vlaardingen! We had to wait 20 minutes before we could get a table, but that was fine as the atmosphere is good. Food is delicious, service very friendly and efficient. Prices very reasonable. We will definitely return!

The good ambiance and perfect service at Tim Hong are recognized by more people; on this nondescript Wednesday evening two large parties had a festive get-together at Tim Hong. Indeed, the ambiance of the restaurant is appealing; the music over the loudspeaker system is subdued, lighting is exactly right and the service of the staff is polite, soft spoken and attentive, exactly what you can expect from people with their roots in South-east Asia. Ample free parking is available in the '60's shopping center where Tim Hong is located. I wish that I could also be that positive about the food. Maybe I am spoiled by my frequent visits to "Asian food heaven" Malaysia, but the truth is, that my starter, curry triangles, was oily and almost tasteless. My main course, a combination dish of Foo Yong egg, roasted pork and satay, I had selected, because of the value for money and that I know that the chef at Tim Hong is relatively good with it, was edible, good ingredients, but a "one size fits all" red sauce for the egg dish and the pork. As I said in a previous review, Tim Hong is an ideal place to arrange a festive sit-down with family and friends, but the food comes second place.

The restaurant is situated in one of the so-much-representative-for-the-country windmills, in particular one of the 6 in total "molen" of the picturesque city of Schiedam. The interior is cozy and there are displays of many other windmills from across the Netherlands.
The menu is a bit pricey and you might find yourself waiting for the main course for a bit longer than usual, but the quality of the food is great. Some of the portions might be small while others are just the right size. I personally had a Bigoli pasta and loved it but caution: VERY hot! :)
Staff is friendly and enjoy small talks.

Seriously. If you are in the area you must visit this great Italian trattoria. Not just the superb pizza but everything was superb. They welcomed and looked after 6 adults and 8 children with true dutch hospitality. Plus the awesome whole floor show by the staff. Real fun!

I really enjoyed dining in this Japanese restaurant! The atmosphere is really great, the restaurant is very well decorated giving a cosy feeling. All are Japanese waiters and staff, adding to the total experience. The staff is really dedicated and passionate to bring top quality service to clients. We took a menu with 8 to 9 different dishes, food was really great!
