High streets and shopping centers in the Netherlands are growing more uniform every day with the large chains operating in virtually every town. In "Winkelcentrum De Loper" also the "usual suspects" as Albert Heijn, Blokker, Zeeman, Etos, the DA drug store chain and more, are making their presence felt. However, a number of specialty shops are flourishing, making shopping in "De Loper" worthwhile. De Loper consists of an old part, built in the 60's of last century and a new part, built in the 90's. These parts are connected with a covered shopping passage. The old part is typical 60' architecture. The new part was presented by the architect as an Italian-like square. Well, there are porticos, but there the comparison stops. Parking is free on the streets around the center and also free in the two level car park on the roof of the Albert Heijn supermarket. The advantage of De Loper compared for instance with Vlaardingen city center is of course the free parking and the range and quality of shops is somewhat better. When in Vlaardingen, this is the place to shop.

The museum has just reopened (Spring 2015) after extensive renovations which integrated the former warehouses of a fish trading company.
The collection is interesting but deals with very local issues.
There are some style rooms and the history of the once large local fishing industry is shown.
Most interesting is the history of the area long before the Romans came. Where Vlaardingen is now there was a small but important settlement and some archaeological findings from those times are on display. It was nice to see the remodeled faces of our ancestors from those times.
The museum lies on the inner harbor of town with the old steel sailing ship Balder moored in front
The museum is nice to visit when you are around.

The location is a little bit outside the town centre. We found it by chance as our hotel is just on the other side of the road. We started our walk from the sportcentre, "Polderport". You can park the car by the japanese restaurant. Walking along the river near "Twist" bridge, there was a flock of sheep. A lot of green, flowers and berries are here and there, and some small animals like rabbit and birds. We came across some trunk Bridges, walked through a "Klauterwoud" (klauterforest), it's for survival training. The path is good for walking and you can also rent a mountainbike as there is special parcours for it. It worths visit

It's a tiny building, two storeys crammed with all manner of old things from Vlaardingen's past. It's free to visit which is a bonus.

This proud windmill was built in the 18th century and stands on a historical spot in Vlaardingen, at the old elevated road, which still continues into Schiedam. On that crossing the road into the (then) village Vlaardingen Ambacht (now part of Vlaardingen) started, to continue to the (then) village Kethel (now part of Schiedam). Round the corner, at the Delftseveer, you could take the ferry (more like a barge then) to Delft. An important traffic spot. Today this windmill is still in operation and produces several types of flour, which can be obtained at the shop, located in the miller's house. Indeed a proud landmark in Vlaardingen.

Come and enjoy the 10 kilometer single track mountain bike route in the beautiful nature of Vlaardingen. During the mountain biking you will pass unpaved paths with plenty of challenges. Along the route are two technical parks. The technical parks are for the cycling enthusiast with jumps, hills, hairpin curves, balance beams and Bridges, a rock garden and several elevation changes.
It's a sport centre but there is also event and party in this complex. The location is in the nature and recreation area Broekpolder. The indoor sport is such fitness and the outdoor, there is a big sport field on the side of the building, "survival adventure" in the "Klauterwoud" (clamber forest), in the nature behind this sport centre. And the best of this sport centre is the mountainbike activity as it has special track for MTB. A sushi restaurant is just at the front of the building.

City park Holy (no not the english word holy; Holy is a historic name used in this area long before all those houses were built in the '70s of last century) is not only a beautiful and surprising city park, but it is also the home of a petting zoo and city farm. Once in a while, when money is tight in Vlaardingen, the council discusses if there is enough money available for park and farm, but luckily every time the city farm is saved and everybody is happy. Worth a visit.

The location of this place is at the harbour of Vlaardingen. The name "Kroepoek Fabriek" ( Kroepoek is Chip Srimph) was used to be a chip shrimp factory. It is now a very good concert hall, even the best in such small category. We visited this place for the concert of our favourite band from Nashville. The sound is good, the drink is affordable and the people are friendly. There is enough parking place. Will sure come back again
