Szombathely (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsombɒthɛj]; see also other alternative names) is the 10th largest city in Hungary. It is the administrative centre of Vas county in the west of the country, located near the border with Austria. Szombathely lies by the streams Perint and Gyöngyös (literally "pearly"), where the Alpokalja (Lower Alps) mountains meet the Little Hungarian Plain. The oldest city in Hungary, it is known as the birthplace of Saint Martin of Tours.

The best things about this place is that they have many food options and, so far, all of them very very good. The cost is pretty reasonable for the place and great taking in account the food quality.

Visited this cafe many times as it is in a great location, right in downtown Szombathely! The ice-cream selection is fantastic and all the other treats that we tried was amazing. In the nice summer weather the best is to sit outside and enjoy the treats ! you can also have a good selection of coffees and the service is pretty fast as well.
One of my favorite is Somloi Galuska which is like a sponge cake with chocolate syrup, walnut pieces , vanilla sauce and whipped cream on top! Yum!
You won't be disappointed with anything!

We liked this Trattoria the minute we arrived as it has a genuine feel to it and it is well done. I guess there has to be an Italian involved..!
I usually dislike pizza and eat them very rarely, but this time I just felt like one. So a pizza and spicy chicken with lemon. We shared the 2 main dishes and they were both hot, freshly cooked and very tasty indeed. I love hot fresh food and this matched up well. The pizza was delicious...perfect base, well cooked/baked (they have a proper pizza oven), with a nice flavouring and with plenty of cheese. What more could I ask for? Well...maybe a little more chilli and salami/pepperoni.
The chicken was breast, tender and full of flavour. All washed down with a soft medium white wine for my GF and beer for me. Has to be with pizza!
Yes...a very decent meal well cooked and good value for money. Service was also very good.
We would go back for sure.

Traditional reastaurant in Szombathely in a scenic place, perfect modernised, but with boring, tasteless, some times wamed-up dishes. The service is slow, because of wedding-dinners. For outdoor bier.drinking with friends is OK.

Blessed with great views on the local vineyards and onto the Hungarian plain, this inn boasts a nostalgic atmosphere which attracts visitors from quite far away. Located some 3km form the Austrian border.
Great selection of local specialties, great taste. Beware: huge portions - only come when really hungry.

I echo the previous reviewer (in Hungarian): food is great here and their opening hours are quite long and flexible. This is the best pizza in town. Ciao Amico was the first pizzeria to open in Szombathely, they learnt the tradition from Italian chefs that time and haven't really changed a thing since then, so you know you get the same pizza you always got, no unpleasant surprises.
Other meals are also great, I recommend their lasagne.
Only negative thing I would mention is that their staff is a bit elderly so they are not the most cheerful waiters you will ever meet, but nothing to do but get over it, they are not mean just burnt out I guess.
I would also love to see some renovation happening but this does not bother me much as I usually go in warm weather when their pleasant Terrace is open.

We visit Gelato every time we are in Szombathely. A cafe has a lot of traditional Deserts and tasty ice-cream. Its very popular for locals, especially on weekends!

Although we tried to make a reservation on phone an hour before arriving, they did not accept it. So we made a try by personal, and we got a table an hour later –wise to reserve in time.
The waiters and the waitress were really polite, professional and nice: it was how it is taught in the school, but they mixed it with some personality and kindness, so at the end it was a really good experience.
The place is ok, stylish, clean and elegant. not the most creative, but ok.
The food was really delicious: I absolutely recommended for anyone, not just for fine dinning fans. The menu is not so wide, so all the foods are fresh. The ingredients and the outcome represented high quality and professional kitchen, with creative and exciting solutions.
The waiter told us at the begining from which ingredients they ran out, (we visited the restaurant at night), but he offered a fair exchange.
So, finally, congratulation for the restaurant, keep on moving! Probably nowdays the best restaurant in Szombathely.
