"Our passion for hospitality and restaurants have led us to treat this fascinating work with the love, respect and respect it so greatly deserves. Our innovative Mediterranean cuisine is distinctive and we love to pamper our guests in the romantic rooms overlooking the lake where staff and surroundings reflect genuine harmony."<br><br>Antonino works on his cuisine every day of his life, drawing inspiration from life itself. His dishes also reflect and epitomise his journey northwards from the Sorrento coast to his wife, Cinzia, a native of Orta which is now his home.<br><br>These are the secrets of our two Michelin starred restaurant.
From the welcome through every course and bite, both the food and service absolutely lived up to Michelin's 2 stars. In our opinion, the few things keeping this outstanding restaurant from a third star...the dessert straw should have been edible, more elegant cutlery for the veal dish, an elegant pen to sign the check, a box of take away truffles..

Osteria La Brioska was Established in 2007 in an ancient courtyard in the middle of Gattinara by the cook Giuseppina Baruffi with the aim to offer a typical wine and food experience. That's why almost everything is produced in Gattinara: from the worldwide famous wine to the raw materials used following the traditional recipes. In Gattinara's dialect the name Brioska means "place where you can temporary sell wine and food" and origins from an ancient tradition of the town.La Brioska is a warm "family-run business" managed by Giuseppina and her husband Celestino, their son Pietro and his wife Rosanna. From 2011 La Brioska is recommended by several gastronomical guidebooks, among which the most important is Osterie d'Italia by Slow Food.
This is the type of restaurant we always seek out when traveling in Italy: dedicated to local dishes seasonally adjusted, together with a treasure trove of local wines (situated in Gattinara, the options are naturally quite grand).
The restaurant is comfortable and cozy, the service attentive and friendly. Of course we had the risotto made with gattinara wine (delicious and perfectly cooked). The appetizers of beef tartare (from the Fassone cow) and vitello tonnato were well made. The specialty of the moment were small frogs fried whole - the verdict is still out on that dish.
Pietro, the excellent host, advised us on the purchase of wines in the superb wine store next door, stacked with the best of the best Gattinara producers and vintages and also offering all the wines made from the many autochthonous grapes of the area - a must for wine lovers.
Prices are moderate.

Interesting restaurant with exceptionally high quality food. Not the most obvious environment for a classy restaurant but the dining room is nice, staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant, the tasting menu was six courses long with very expensive ingredients but the two of us ate for less than 90 Euro (admittedly no wine but we did have bottled water). Not to miss if you are in the Borgomanero area.

After leaving the Italian lake country, this small restaurant in Gattinara served as the introduction for our party of four to the traditional cuisine of the Piedmont. Because the waitress spoke no English, she brought the chef out from the kitchen, and he graciously explained the menu items in sufficient detail. Our food was simply delicious, perfectly seasoned, with sauces tending toward the rich side of things which was just fine with me (hey, it's vacation!). Among our dishes were caponet di tapulone (cabbage stuffed with donkey with a gorgonzola sauce - fantastic!), a pork pate which was a complimentary offering from the chef, octopus in a pureed bean sauce, then another bonus from the kitchen - chicken thighs stuffed with cheese and wrapped in ham, followed by primi piatti offerings of gnocchi with zucchini and pumpkin sauce, tagliolini, agnolotti, then second piatti of beef braised in Barolo, pork neck and finally, fritto mist for two. No room for desert, but the chef brought out complimentary tidbits that we saved for later. A couple of bottles of local Nebbiolo (from Nervi and Travaglini) proved to be the obvious and perfect accompaniment.
Two weeks later, leaving Italy and on our way to Switzerland, we stopped at del Soggiorno again, ordering mostly the same dishes since we enjoyed them so much the first time. This place has a comfortable, friendly atmosphere, excellent food, a short but well-chosen wine list, and very reasonable prices considering the quality of ingredients and the flawless execution by the kitchen (i.e., the chef all by himself), and should be a dining destination for anyone passing through Gattinara, a wine region which appears to not be on the radar for the average tourist.

Located in a hidden corner to the left of the church, Vecchia Sizzano is everything that fellow reviewers have said it is. I am tempted to call the cuisine really good home-style cooking, but the decor, presentation and service puts this restaurant at a level above the average family-run osteria that we usually seek out. The risotto with toma cheese is a definite must-try if you love rice (the paniscia - risotto with salame and beans - is also tasty). The surprise, however, was the hot and cold mixed antipasti. This was comprised of 3 plates served in succession. The first was an assortment of cured salumi and lardo. The 2nd and 3rd had "tastings" of northern italian classics like bagna cauda, casseoula and carne cruda battuta (see image), among other things. It was all orchestrated to whet your appetite. I can only guess that the mixed antipasti changes according to season, so it should be interesting to see what the tastings are like in spring and fall.
As other reviewers have noted, the tagliata/steak on a hot stone is something to impress, and we could only envy the table that ordered it. After the mixed antipasti and risotto dishes, all we had room for was a dessert to share. Try the local Sizzano wine by Zanetta. Excellent value for money on all counts. We had a Sunday lunch and look forward to the next meal, perhaps dinner. Be aware that there was no menu written in detail and that dishes were recited by voice. Also, our 2 little dogs were allowed in the restaurant.

Standing outside you would wonder if you should move on, but once inside you will be pleasantly rewarded. The food is outstanding, especially the appetizers are second to none. Service is fast and friendly, it seems more like you eat at home with friends, but the chef is a professional. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, but be aware that it isn't cheap. Although the quality of the dishes is outstanding, I must say the bill was a bit too high. On the other hand it isn't my place and I don't make the prices.
The choice is up to you.

Small place in a secluded area, but not far from Orta. The meal was outstanding, with only local ingredients. The evening meal started at a fixed time (8 PM), The service was smooth, since everybody was served the same dish at the same time. The menu was fixed, but there could be small variations, due to some unwanted dishes. The menu changes every week. The only weak point was the wine, which was excellent but served at 25°C at least. It took some time to cool down.
Only open from Thursday through Sunday. Booking ahead is essential. There is a small parking next to the restaurant entrance, but also along the road to get there.

Wonderful local osteria in Pettenasco. Elena speaks English, is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu and actually assists the chef with some of the food preparation. Small but varied menu of local dishes. Great antipasto sampler, bagna cauda and pasta. Courses progressed at a relaxing pace, food cooked to order. Good wine list.
