From unhurried classical dining in our atmospheric wood panelled restaurant to leisurely lunches in the garden, from traditional Afternoon Teas to our very reasonable Table d’Hote menu – we hope to delight and enchant with our food regardless of the occasion. We are incredibly fortunate to have a one acre walled kitchen garden, which during the summer months provides 95% of all fruit and vegetables we use in the kitchen, assuring you of the very freshest ingredients. "We have an exceptionally talented team in the kitchen who are very keen to keep ingredients as fresh and local as possible. Dishes will change as often as is practical and will offer something new to try regardless of how often our guests dine with us. I look forward to inviting you into our restaurant at an exciting time to try, what I firmly believe to be, some of the most honest and delicious food in food in the area." Executive Chef – Rupert Gleadow
Our first trip to this fabulous restaurant which I cannot praise too highly. The service is second to none and the food just perfect. It was a truly wonderful experience.

Booked well in advance for a Special family Lunch.
Food was 'average' for an establishment of this calibre or so I had been told (or told to expect), especially at these prices and where the portions were so modest.
Service was almost non-existent - drinks, wine, water, & bread etc. I would have declined the Service Charge out right, but it would have upset the Guest of Honour.
I have read several of the other Reviews on here and remain at a loss to understand the variance.
Our experience was 'poor' and no doubt about it.

Ockenden Manor offers a superb fine dining experience in our beautiful dining room overlooking the Gardens with stunning views of the South Downs National Park. Head Chef, Stephen Crane, serves some of the finest food in southern England incorporating the freshest ingredients, sourced locally in Sussex whenever possible. Guests have a choice of fixed price menus including Stephen's selected Sussex Menu or the gastronomic seven course Tasting Menu
I have been visiting this restaurant for years, about once every 5 or 6 weeks. I was so impressed that I joined the Historic Sussex Hotel's Dining Club.
I went last week, not having been since before Christmas and everything had changed except the menu.
The dining room had moved whilst the existing one was being re furbished. I did not recognize any of the staff. We were taken to our table by a waitress, the maitre de did not know we were there so the order taking was slow. Service was generally slow, it appeared that there had been no training or handover from the previous staff. The lady at the front desk had only started in early January and did not know how to use the credit card machine. As mentioned earlier the menu was the same and felt a bit stale.
I will definitely go again as this hopefully is a one off poor experience.

Cafe Rouge is located in the old Haywards Heath Building Society, which has been transformed into a stunning bistro - offering a little slice of Paris in Haywards Heath. French doors open up onto the outdoor Terrace, a lovely sun-trap over the summer months. The restaurant also offers a gorgeous private dining room which can be booked free of charge, this can seat up to 24 people for celebrations or events. Book now and experience our fantastic menu with friends and family.
Wife and I went for breakfast. The place was quite buzzy and has a nice layout with a few nooks and crannies; less like a production line. I had the full English whilst my wife had tomato and avocado on sourdough. Mine was good quality food and plenty of it without being overkill. However her comment was “How did they know I was on a diet?” One thin piece of toast, maybe half a small tomato and some avocado. She had opted for a poached egg as well (for an extra £1!). That’s fine except for the price versus quantity. Mine was good value - but the going rate for restaurants in the area - at £8.50 (2 eggs, sausage, 2 rashers bacon, toast, half tomato, beans mushroom) but wife’s was not at £7.50. To be fair they did adjust the price when we queried only £1 difference between full English and the other. And I doubt it’s the managers or staff’s fault. I’m assuming it’s Cafe Rouge policy which dictates portion size and pricing. Just beware if you are hungry and fancy something on toast. Choose something else or order two!

This historic building was refurbished in April 2011. The pub offers fresh local produce on our weekly changing menu, a selection of lager, ales, cider & wine from local suppliers. Our Head Chef, Frederic Bodeau, has worked at many top establishments in France and West Sussex and brings with him knowledge of different cuisines and techniques. His passion is cooking food simply yet creating seasonal, tasty dishes. Our aim is to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for every occasion whether you are bringing the family for Sunday lunch or meeting friends for a three course meal in our restaurant. We promise to do our utmost to make it an experience you will remember
This is a village pub which has been very successfully converted to a bistro pub. The menu changes regularly and there are always a few specials to choose from and the quality and presentation are consistently excellent. The ambience, particularl in the lower room is perhaps not as good as it might be, but the friendly welcome and service go a long way to counter this. Only downside is the bitter which last time I tried it, following the change from the excellent Harvey's, could only be described as poor in the extreme. The other issue for us was the rather over loud and certainly dated music but the quality of the food made up for this.

went on a Saturday lunchtime with friends, had a brilliant meal, everything was perfectly cooked and hot. couldn't find any fault with anything, it was a lovely day and we sat overlooking the garden, which was really nice. it gets very busy so booking is advised.
will definitely go back again.

Limes Restaurant is situated on the High Street of the historic and picturesque village of Lindfield in West Sussex. The restaurant has a seasonal menu with daily specials using locally sourced produce. Our cuisine is British with the occasional Asian influences, reflecting the origins of our head chef, Patcharee. Only the freshest seasonal ingredients are used, locally sourced wherever possible, delivered daily to the restaurant and expertly prepared by Patcharee and her team. We pride ourselves in having the flexibility to cater to those with special dietary needs. Just let us know at the time of booking and we will provide menu selections to meet your requirements. Our restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday for Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner, also on Sunday for Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Tea. Private functions can also be catered for.
I don’t like to leave negative reviews but I was disappointed with this place. I’d been looking forward to trying it for a while and went with my partner for Sunday brunch. The food was reasonable (although a bit too much garlic) and the guy who served us was nice and polite, but apart from that it was chaotic and stressful. Everything came out at different times - the drinks, the meals, then the sides and toast right at the end and only half toasted, by which point we’d pretty much finished our meals anyway. Had to remind them several times of different items and never got the water I ordered. The waiter did take a couple of items off the bill and the prices were reasonable to start with but with so many other local options, I unfortunately don’t think I’ll be returning

Tarana is on the site of what was 'Turners' Pub, keeping much of the original external facade. Now experience for yourself the exceptional and unique quality we offer by visiting Tarana Restaurant. Our philosophy is simple, it is to transform our passion for Indian food into a totally enjoyable dining experience for our guests. This is achieved by offering a wonderful variety of authentic dishes, presented by attentive staff in a warm and friendly high quality setting.
Visited here with my girlfriend. The layout is really cool and this restaurant has a really good vibe. The staff are very attentive so there is no stress with waiting to order drinks/food. In particular I would like to thank Shaheen for looking after us/being the perfect host throughout the night.
The food is mouth watering/flavoursome and even when you have finished the flavours are still coming through so a very clever use of flavours and spices by the chefs.
Give Tarana a go and you will not be disappointed!

16Th Century Inn in the picturesque village of West Hoathly, West Sussex. Locally source ingredients used for the menu, which is seasonal. Local beers also sold. Extensive wine list, many available by the glass. Significant number of Sussex sparkling wines available too. Four ensuite bedrooms available too.
Seriously impressed were the comments from my dining companion who enjoys food at the finest places. he started with the Torched South Coast Mackerel,Coleslaw, Beetroot Aioli, Coriander - 7.50. This was a good portion and the mackerel was fleshy and tasty. Presentation was excellent. For main course we both had the Roasted Haddock
Creamed Potato, Leek, Samphire, Mussel & Dill Beurre Blanc - 17.50. When served it did not look huge but was surprisingly filling and I even left a little of the potato. However the flavours were sensational and we were both delighted with the options. I managed to squeeze in 2 scoops of tasty ice cream. My companion enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and said "we'll be back". One minor criticism was the wine list. My dining companion suggested a Mersault or Montrachet wine on the menu would have been a great idea.
We didn't stay at the B&B and would suggest that the two entries are merged on the site if possible.
Service was good - loved the table posies, left over from Valentine's, but extremly pretty and fragrant.

The Rose and Crown is a family run village Gastro Pub in the heart of Cuckfield. There is a beautiful garden with a bar which serves Pizzas on sunny weekends.
I've eaten here a few times over the last couple of years and it's always been very good. However, the most recent visit was oustanding (and I don't say that lightly).
As always the salt and pepper squid starter was great. However, the beef main was exceptional - simply the best sunday roast I have ever had anywhere. Oustanding quality and taste, accomapnied by perfect potatoes and veg. If this is the new benchmark then I will be back again very soon.
