This is a nice restaurant in an extraordinary place, one of the most beautiful villages in the Alps. I had an excellent entrecote with a delicious mushroom sauce, vegetables and fried potatoes, everything was delicious, the service very friendly and effective, in a very nice atmosphere. highly recommendable to everyone, in couple, family or solo.

We have had good time there. Good food too. All of my friends are happy. But yes, the owner seems a bit serious, not very expressive in the gesture, almost "no smile" :)
Other than that, I MUST appreciate her service anyway. She and her team still serve us even though we arrive very late for lunch (almost 3pm)!

Very pleasant family-run place, roomy, authentic. Been there twice (Dec 2010 and Jan 2012). Had Christmas dinner there, the first time. Excellent, local recipes, meat and everything else was delicious. Both times I went, people really cared for how things were for me. I asked some questions about the surroundings, and got very informative answears, not counting their time. Of course, if the customer is un-hurried and sympathetic, it helps, in getting that kind of chatty attitude from the locals. Two adjoining dining rooms, decorated with inspiring local items. Some French Swiss literature books on the shelf. The second time I went, I had some work to do on my computer, and they made things easy for me. Even though I spent 3 hours there, no pressure to move away. Also gave me opportunity to witness how other customers were treated: excellent. The second time I had lamb, very tasty, with abundant side food, also excellent. Good choice of Swiss wines, I was not disappointed there either. Of course they have the expected French Swiss specialties (fondue, raclette, etc, and an appealing choice of pancakes). Overall, unforgettable French Swiss flavour to the whole experience. Not a jet set place, but the real thing in Valais. That’s what I was looking for. I can find jet set in most big cities, but not this.

Reliably excellent food, beautifully presented with friendly service and first rate local wines to match. People don't just come here from Evolene, they come up from Sion, 15km away. It would comfortably hold its own in London. Our choice in the area for lunch, coffee, afternoon ice creams or dinner
Naturally it isn't cheap but it represents good value.

We love visiting the historic Hotels of Switzerland, constructed a century or so ago, to soak up the wonderful atmosphere of how life must have been at the "belle epoque" just before WW1 changed life forever.
Usually we expect a bella vista site and a dramatic construction full of towers and turrets of neo classic vistorian follies, but mediocre food and ambience.
Imagine the surprise arriving on the Terrace of the Kurhaus on a beautiful sunny day in July to find one of the most spectacular views of Mt. Collon. The pleasure mounted on finding a menu with french, italian, and of course Swiss dishes including freshly made in house pasta, pesto and other delicacies, matched by an adequate wine list for the occasion at prices that would not discourage us from coming a second time.
In fact it was so good that we went back a week later to check out whether we had been dreaming, or our first impressions were correct.
The second visit coincided with a book fair organised to encourage visitors to the hotel and restaurant.
The only thing that suffered was the excellent service of the first visit, because this time the restaurant was full and the friendly personnel had not been increased sufficiently to cope.
This was the only drawback we found, so choose the timing of your visit between slow service if you are a book fan, or avoid the special attractions if you just want to enjoy surprisingly good cuisine in a world class alpine setting far from the major touristic venues. ( 45 kms from Sion on twisty but good alpine roads, which require 4x4 or similar in the 4 month winter snow period.

Lovely outside garden area with lots of tables. Wonderful views and a large selection of beers. Menu looked good though we only had a refreshing beer.

We've had a very good dinner at this restaurant. The croûte aux chanterelles was very good with a perfect mixed salad which quality was way above the kind that is usually served in small restaurant (the kind that seem to be coming out of a can...). They have many different kind of fondue that I would love to go back to taste.
Reservation is recommended as it is small.
The atmosphere is charming and the service was friendly, but I was surprised to overhear saying to a customer reserving a table that they should arrive before 20h15. Maybe they close down earlier on Friday...?

We use to visit this restaurant in family quite often, because we love to visit Evolène and show the village to friends visiting us from the other part of the country.
When we go to Evolène with friend or family, we always go eat at "La paix", which is one of the best restaurant in Evolène.
The place is nice, the Terrace is nice, there are plenty of thing in the menucard, even for vegetarians (i'm one).
Polenta is great, fondue eaten in bread pan is great, raclette au feu de bois, salad buffet, meat on stone, you should come often to taste all the good meals they serve there !

We followed the recommendation from a local and walked into the restaurant, located in an old hostel. The decor reminds of a modern chalet, lacks a little bit of true atmosphere, but you know you are in the Mountains, especially as many locals seem to settle here for food or drinks.
The menu spans large, from pizza and salad, to more seasonal game and nice meat.
We decided for cheese dishes and we found it fairly good, but not fully convinced. I guess that we need to try the meat, as it seems to be the specialty of the house.
Service was friendly and the owner comes frequently to discuss and check all is fine.

Great un pretentious place where you can sample excellent meats. The signature dish is the cordon bleu, which is sizeable and nicely cooked, served generously with fries and vegetables. They also do an excellent tournedos, thick and juicy and the meat is cooked to order. We have not sampled their fondue, but can only assume that it is just as good as the rest.
