Lac Bleu is a short hike off the beaten track but well worth the up hill climb. The views are stunning surrounded by snow capped peaks and the setting one of tranquillity - great for a pic-nic or simply to chill out for an hour or two.

These earth pyramids of Euseigne are one of Switzerland's most important geological sites and are protected monuments. It's worth a detour to get a view of this natural wonder. There is parking above them but also carry on driving down and as the road curves round across the valley you get another stunning view of the rocks. There is a footpath which takes you down to the foot of the pyramids, taking about 25 minutes.

Grimentz is like no other ski area, in a good way. If your idea of the perfect ski holiday is of flashy 4 and 5 star hotels, noisy night life, and wide perfectly groomed blue runs served by lift queues, then please, look elsewhere!
A modern gondola up one side, or a recently built cable car up the other, whisk you up to the ski areas without a hint of a queue. The cable car in theory holds 125 people, but typically you will find one third of that. The driver says hello at the start of the journey, and wishes you Bon Journee as you exit. Grimentz is that kind of place - everybody is friendly and laid back.
Up the mountain is a mix of a small number of chairlifts and drag lifts. While there may be a relatively small number of ways to get up the mountain, there is an unlimited number of ways to get down, most of it not for the faint hearted. There is a small number of optimistically rated blue runs, but much of the skiing is steep here, particularly above Zinal. People don't generally come here for the pistes though, and when the powder falls, the fun starts, with rarely any shortage of un-tracked mountainside to play on. Don't be deceived by the fact this is a small area: On a powder day you can ski of the same lift all day, and every run is different!
A truly unique area, best reserved for those of us who want to ski hard during the day, but appreciate the quiet and relaxed alpine charm of the village in the evening.

If you want to try a romantic skiing, the way it could be some times ago, go to Evolène!
Today, all the ski stations are packed with people and skiing has become so easy that it could hardly be called a "sport". It's true : in Evolène the lifts are old but that leaves you the time to watch the beautiful Panorama. At the top of the station, 5 Mountains 4000 m high (12000 feet) can be seen.
You can enjoy all the slopes you want, from very easy ones to VERY difficult. Along the slopes, you can see a lot of animals (deers, chamois, foxes). And the ski teachers for your children are the best.
The village, with its old chalets, is the most beautiful of Switzerland : you can eat very well, the people is nice
And then there's Carnaval : go to Evolène during the weekend before Carnaval. The typical masks will gently frighten you, but the laughs are everywhere !
Beautiful place.

Stilte en met regelmaat het klonken van een sleeplift tegen het ijzer of de sneeuw. Dit is een hoog mini- skigebied die 1 is met de natuur.

The new Grimentz - Zinal cable car is the 3rd longest cable route in Switzerland and affords incredible views over the 3 Valleys surrounding Grimentz. Most if not all skiers are now using this connection, but non-skiers can too!
The ticket for the ride is not inexpensive, especially considering there is no restaurant or business at the Zinal end - you arrive up on the actual slopes. Once there, you can walk down to a little food outlet - if you're up to the ~30 minute walk back up, and/or you can wander around enjoying the views. Other than that, the draw is the experience of the ride and the views. If you have ridden many other Swiss cable cars, is probably isn't worth it, but the views on the ride and on the slopes are breathtaking.
Val d'Annivers ski passes include this cable car, but pedestrian passes do not. You can, however, buy a single ticket which is good for an entire day. The big secret is that if you buy a pedestrian ticket for the Zinal car, they will ask you if you would like to go up to Bendolla too. With no additional cost. It helps to know this BEFORE you have paid to go up Bendolla, which is about half the cost of the Zinal car. So, do both, and save money. Go from Grimentz to Zinal in the morning, walk around as much as you wish and enjoy the jaw-dropping 360 views without the crowds of the Jungfrau or the Matterhorn. Then return to Grimentz, take the gondola to Bendolla, have a lovely lunch out on the Terrace, and then hike, sled, snowshoe, cross-country ski, or just take the gondola back to the village - it's a great day.
