This is effectively our local taverna during our stay at Keramoti Villas just up the road. We have visited twice so far and will go back again before the end of our holiday. On both occasions we have found exceptional cookery and beautiful ingredients. Other reviwers have given more detail than I will, all I will say is, if you like food, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and authentic cookery you will love this place.

Ntounias restaurant is a traditional Cretan restaurant with authentic tastes cooked in the wood oven, even the bread is hand made and cooked in the restaurant. Most ingredients are taken from the family farm and many are harvested from the neighboring area. Stelios is a unique person with love for life and cooking, and this spirit you can see, smell and taste in his food! When you visit Ntounias, take your time as we will produce to you to taste our plates, which are different every day. The restaurant is located at Drakona village, east of Therisso village at Keramia, Chania prefecture in west Crete.
Decided to try Dounias after browsing restaurants in western Crete, that were accessible from where we were staying in Aptera. Got lost trying to find it but realised that one of the restaurant sign's arrows was faded and we had missed the turn.
On approaching the restaurant, the large wooden fires with stone and iron pots on them, can easily be seen bubbling and steaming away. We went inside the restaurant although there is an outside Seating area across from the main building.
There is no menu, just whatever is fresh that day and the chef has decided to cook. All meat, vegetables and bread is organic and local. The local wine is also made by the owner/chef and is also organic. He asked us if we ate meat, vegetables, were vegan etc and we replied that we'd eat anything & everything!
We drank the local wine and were given a lovely pottery jug of water too. The dishes began to arrive very quickly - wonderful homemade bread, made with 3 types of flour, a dish of stewed aubergines, a plate of rich meaty goat, another of pork and onions and a vegetable dish reminiscent of moussaka but made with layers of courgette and potato with a cheese topping. The food was all excellent, extremely flavoursome and worth the drive up into the hills. The chef asked us if we were still hungry, but we were replete. We could have had more food! He then brought us a dish of local grapes and sweet apples to finish the meal. The bill was ridiculously small for the quality of food that we'd consumed. We are going back to Crete next year and will definitely return to Dounias! I know it's a cliche but 'local gem' is the right term for this wonderful eatery.

We have reviewed Kali Kardia in Afrata, Tis Litsas Ta Kamomata is the other restaurant on the right!
Firstly they serve the local unpasteurised beer, if for no other reason drop in for that! The Taverna is family run and of the same high standard as Kali, you honestly can't divide either (apart from the beer).
Comedy moment? The lamb and goat from the grill is usually the same meat, although they may forget to remember what you ordered when serving;
Waiter 'Here is your Goat madam
Guest 'I ordered Lamb?
Waiter ' Yes Lamb!'
Guest 'This lamb is gorgeous!!'
Well worth a visit and they also sell local jewellery and honey

Taverna Pelagias Yard is a family established place. Fresh raw materials come direct the papa's George farm. Cooked meals are always arted by mama's Pelagias long acknowlegment in local kitchen. family owned restaurant with great and moderate priced food. almost all was organic, either produced on their local farm or bought in the area. we really love the grilled feta and their own wine (intense taste though). as a desert wo got something like a freshly made peta filled with Crete cheese and a honey toping - strange an the beginning but got better with every bite. overall really nice there.

After a sporty morning, we got hungry and in the middle of a green area (mountains, Valleys, gorges, Canyons, forest, bushes), just 20-30 km south outside Chania, we suddenly reached the very small village of Drakona, where totally unexpectedly we discover this traditional tavern, which offers a beautiful view of the valley below, facing Chania far away. The Owners welcomed us in a very friendly way and helped us in selecting the food, which resulted very delicious and tasty. The bill came very honest.
Definitely, this traditional tavern deserves to be taken into account.

Tipical Creta Kitchen with own made products from our garden, the mit too.
We had a wonderful late lunch here. The owner was extremely helpful and sat down at the table with us to help choose our food and recommended some excellent dishes. The homemade ratatouille (Greek style) was excellent as to were the aubergines and tziki. The greek salad was so tasteful and the feta really good. The stuffed courgette flowers were fantastic. We would certainly recommend this taverna. Best one we have tried so far.

In a stone building over 200years old, we are rejuvenating tradition with love and enthusiasm, by marrying yesterday with today, generously providing you the opportunity to taste traditional dishes. Parasia has an ideal, warm and welcoming environment to dress its flavors and aromas.Cretan raki , wine, music ,'mirrored lamb'-antikristo - cooked in the authentic parasia. Every Saturday night at 8'o'clock live rebetico and some English music.
We have been to this restaurant before (always excellent food), but this was our first visit during the holiday season. They are open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve...all with a special menu and live music. We went on the evening before New Years Eve to celebrate with just two of us. We ordered the Chicken with Brandy, Onions & Bacon; The Chicken Schnitzel Special with Cream, Mushroom & Bacon; Zucchini Balls, and the Cheese Dip. The Schnitzel was a HUGE portion and cooked perfectly. The Chicken with Brandy is a favorite of ours and we have ordered this many times, it never disappoints...so delicious! I was especially pleased with the festive atmosphere: the large fireplace with a crackling fire, surrounded by Christmas lights, candles burning on each table, holiday decor throughout, very cozy.... it was truly lovely!!! The owner came around to every table giving free wine to each party, we happened to be drinking soda...so he gave us 2 Cokes on the house :) And of course there is the complementary, unlimited homemade Raki (2 flavors on each table). When we finished we were presented with 3 desserts, the traditional Greek Christmas Cookies (Kourabiedes and Melomakarona) being one of them...this is my favorite and I was delighted! I am so happy we came to Parasia as part of our holiday celebration.

A very fine Greek lunch after a 12 km walk in Deliana Gorge. All the specialties were super especially the rabbit and fries and the stir fried vegetables including eggplant. They also serve local craft beer Lyra. Great decor. Really neat and much appreciated by the clientele. Ps the name Maracaibo is because the founder was a sea captain and that port in Venezuela was a favourite!

We celebrated my mother-in-law’s 50th birthday so naturally everything had to be perfect.
Everything, from the service, to the food and especially the wine selection was on point and way above what we had expected (even though we went in with very high expectations). We had some special requests regarding the wine and allergies - these were accommodated with a smile.
The only small stumble was that the cheese selection for dessert was not introduced but then all we had to do was ask, so this was a very minor thing.
We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. You won’t be disappointed!

And so glad I did.A completely different take on Cretan hospitality. And a great one too.
An absolute massive selection of breakfast to choose from - savoury, sweet, continental, fiery - it had everything.
The pictures simply don't do it justice, which is a shame, as the owner and all his staff worked really hard on serving everyone with other items (coffee etc) and also replenishing the buffet.
A great place to eat as much you like (if you can fit it all in) at just €7.50 each!
And a lovely cool place to people watch too.
