Got to be done but a bit tricky to get to especially if the rocky pathway is a bit slippy. At night time with a red moon over the sea of crete its very romantic and im told a very poplar wedding location. If you have a bit of a warped sense of humour you want to take a sit in the cantina beach bar looking towards the chapel and watch some hilarious antics of people taking the walk but thankfully have never seen anybody fall in.

We went in low season a beautiful place and hired a paddle boat not wanting to but when in Rome etc, glad we did as other side of lake is full of terrapins fish kingfisher and other wildlife the sunset over Mountains was great too, food at restaurants is good and reasonably priced

.A quiet, sandy beach, shallow water, great for children, with 2 beach bars and groups of sun beds. With rivers at either end of the sheltered cove, the beach is known locally as the "cold beach". You can work out why!You can also walk up the small church on the headland, snorkel or swim off the rocks, and visit the ancient ruins or the World War II gun embankments.
We love this beach away from the main beach in Georgiopolis. Walk over the bridge in the village & along the riverside to "The Captains Bar". The other beach bar with Pink Umbrellas further along but we enjoy "The Captains Bar" . 2 Beds & umbrella 5 euros all day . Snack bar fantastic value! The sea bit cooler due to a river flowing into the sea. This is worth the walk over the bridge. "Captains Bar a more relaxed Family Greek run bar"

Off the beaten path from Chania, but easy to get to. Incredible sandy Beaches. Beach side restaurants and bars, much cheaper than Chania. Best of all tall trees lining the beach, free shade. Lots of parking. Great little town too. Nice shops and taverns. Must see area if you're in the area.

No sand but such a blue. Calling it turquoise just doesn't say enough. No restaurants were open when we went which I think was a Monday.

Whilst staying in Gavalchori we stopped by the museum for an hour and found that it told a good story of the village and its historic crafts especially lace making and also stone cutting and carving - not forgetting the olive oil industry. Good exhibits to match.

The monastery dates back to 1600 but was destroyed in 1923. It was restored to a working monastery in 1996. I wondered round the pretty little courtyard listening to the morning service that was emanating from the church. Beyond the courtyard and church there are some ruins and looking out to the vegetable allotment with the hills behind was just so peaceful and a tiny snapshot of real life in rural Crete. There was also an old Olive Press at the back of the monastery that dates back to 1860 it is partially ruined but still has twelve arches and the mill stones are still there. It once produced 25,000 barrels of oil a year and the sight of the arches is very impressive.
The monastery is just a short drive from Georgioupolis and is on the road between Vamos and Vryses and it's worth paying a visit when in the area.
