Love this place and have visited it several times during the day over the past few years and always enjoyed looking at what can only be described as the art of the place. Eaten there numerous times and always had excellent authentic Greek food. This time we visited on an evening and it did not fail. As always, excellent food and the atmosphere there on a night is marvellous

This taverna, just behind the war memorial, seems to be the centre of the community in the village of Gavalochori, a village of about 600 permanent residents, just 3km inland from the coastal resort of Almyrida.
Varied menu, good food, good house wine, good service and a very pleasant outdoor garden dining area with plenty of shade. Recommended! (& a much better standard than what's on offer in many restaurants in the coastal resorts!).

A wonderful Taverna at the beachside in Kalives Crete. Although known for their great pizzas, the owners, Giorgos and Stella, provide some of the best food available along with a friendly Devil may care attitude to whatever anyone might want to get up to. Lots of fun all year round. Come join us!
We enjoyed the food in this place, especially the II Forno salad which is absolutely huge, so if you're having it as a starter, make sure you know it's big enough for two people. The menu has pictures of the meals which was quite funny as it came handy for my husband who was generally put out by the fact that Cretan menus have such small description (eg. rabbit in the oven, lamb in red wine- and that's it!), so it was helpful for him :)

Family restaurant est 1992. A large choice of appetizers (mezedes), traditional kretan food, and a lot of specialities.
My sister and I went here for our evening meal on the second night of our holidays. We had picked out quite a few restaurants for evening meals and some others for lunch as there were so many good write ups and we thought we would try as many as we could. It didn't work out that way as after our meal there, we were determined to go again and actually ended up going another twice. Need I say more. This restaurant is run by a lovely family, mum, dad and two sons. On our first visit we had giant beans in tomato sauce, which my sister and I love and these were divine, followed by the lamb with potatoes and feta in a pot, which was superb. We had a carafe of red wine to end the night off. When we asked for the bill we were given yoghurt with pumpkin (neither of us had pumpkin before) which was delicious and a small bottle of ouzo. The bill was very reasonable indeed, as the quality of the food was faultless. For the last 11 years my sister and I have been to many restaurants on different Greek Islands and the food here is without doubt one of the best. The family are very friendly and actually look as if they enjoy what they do. There is this amazing ambience in the whole of the village and especially this restaurant which is a sort of happy, laid back with the enjoyment of just being there, that I cant really put into proper words. After going to other restaurants we realised that we wanted to go back to the Arolithos, so we went another twice, once being our last night and had more fabulous food. There was another restaurant that we really liked and one that we ended up going to lunch to nearly every day , but that's another story. P.S. My sister said that of all the Moussakas that she has had theirs is one of the best. We are hoping to go back to Georgioupolis next year and will definitely be going to the Arolithos. Thank you to all the staff for making us so welcome.
As a by-line I would like to add that this restaurant is between mid range and fine dining, a bit of both.

This was top of the restaurant list in Trip Advisor but I think this is more about the restaurant list including bars liked. It's more of a brits home from home...e.g. john smiths (shudder), guinness and carlsberg with the greek beers and cocktails etc. Food choice is a bit limited with breakfast, omelettes, toasted sandwiches, salads and greek starters then mains limited to burgers, some grills and pizzas but no other greek food or fish etc. English/American rock when we there. Really good bar (although we prefer the Angel)

This has become my favourite place to eat in Georgiopoulis. The choices are great and cooked to perfection. The only reason I have scored less than 5 is it gets very busy and the wait can be a little long. Guess that's a price worth paying for the quality of the food.

Taverna Pelagias Yard is a family established place. Fresh raw materials come direct the papa's George farm. Cooked meals are always arted by mama's Pelagias long acknowlegment in local kitchen. Service observe high stadars due to the sun's Stelios care. Different kinds of local goat-sheep cheese. Local delicates as apaki and syglino. Vegeterian meal, salads dressed offcourse with plenty of olive oil. Fresh fish like Gavros specialities like octupus and squids. Couldn't be missed meat from lamb local and fresh spiced from Creta's nature, are some of the unique-specialities of the place. Local Roze Wine from the family's barrels accompanies meat meals. Other dry Cretan white wine like thrapsathiti, plito-dafni or medium sweet mosxofilereo. Kotsifali-Mandilari famous Creta's combination for red for more dedicate wine lovers.
family owned restaurant with great and moderate priced food. almost all was organic, either produced on their local farm or bought in the area. we really love the grilled feta and their own wine (intense taste though). as a desert wo got something like a freshly made peta filled with Crete cheese and a honey toping - strange an the beginning but got better with every bite. overall really nice there.

We tried to get into the Babis a few times but it was always too busy. A very good sign so we made a reservation for our last evening in Georgioupolis. We waited nearly 30 minutes to order a drink and a little over 30 mins to order food. Service was polite and friendly but very slow. The food is OK and nice enough but not sure it is any better than quite a few places in the village. Give it a try.

We have been here in family yesterday night. The taverna is open from 18h00 (practically only for dinner). It is very difficult to find as it is on a very small road. It is not the typical turistic taverna but neither a local one, do not expect something fancy. As per my understanding it works per hotel's recommendations. Still, we enjoyed it a lot. Arriving there they take you to the kitchen and show you the fresh fish of the day. You chose and they grill it on a real grill (not electric). Everything is very tasty and very good quality. Suggest to arrive as early as possible as you risk not finding too much choice of fish. 19h00 was a good time for us. We were 6 persons and the invoice was 220 eur including wine, the dinner was rich. The staff is really friendly. Try the shrimps on grill, we even asked for some more. Sorry i could not take more pictures, i was really occupied eating all the good food.....

Tipical Creta Kitchen with own made products from our garden, the mit too.
We had a wonderful late lunch here. The owner was extremely helpful and sat down at the table with us to help choose our food and recommended some excellent dishes. The homemade ratatouille (Greek style) was excellent as to were the aubergines and tziki. The greek salad was so tasteful and the feta really good. The stuffed courgette flowers were fantastic. We would certainly recommend this taverna. Best one we have tried so far.
