This restaurant was recommended to us by the landlord of a local pub in Bernkastel-Kues. So pleased that we took his advice and ate here. The ambience was amazing, the food exceptional and the service was seconding to none. Amouse bouche and different breads with curry butter and schmaltz as an entre. The starter was a bowl of beef broth with noodles and plenty of tender beef pieces, then I had the tastiest, crispest duck ever and it just melted in your mouth. My husband had the same starter, followed by tranditional German dumplings. Yummy. We shared a scrummy desert and then coffee. Together with 2 carafes of delicious Riesling wine, the bill came to 89 euros. Delightful, polite young waiters and waitresses. Well impressed and would definitely return.

This was our second visit to this restaurant. On this occasion the weather was so nice that we sat and ate outside.
The food is first class and very reasonable. Service is good but idiosyncratic! The prices are very reasonable. The wines are fantastic and again, very well priced.
If you are in Kues you must visit.
By the way it is opposite Restaurant Spinelli which, although always busy, is not a patch on Hoffmans!

Modern and upmarket together is a rare combination in Bernkastel and Café K must be the first of its kind to offer it. The café was busy with locals and visitors during our visit, the coffees and cakes came in generous portions and the service was very nice. Overall - well worth a visit if you have a little cash and time to spare.

We visit Bernkastel for one night with friends & arrived very late at night so were struggling to find a restaurant around the 10pm. The main reason for visiting Spinelli was because it was open however we were very happy we did as we love Italian food.
Being late at night the restaurant couldn't offer us the full menu so we were limited to pizzas & salad. We all opted for pizzas which were delicious & very reasonably priced.
The drinks were also good & well priced.
The waiter was very friendly & helpful.
We enjoyed our visit & would definitely recommend.

Fast and friendly service, a nice appetizer on the house, a gorgeus carpaccio for starter, and their calf liver was just beautiful. The Spätzle, however, was, albeit good, not quite as excellent as I would have expected, and their local red, well, good juice but not quite what I would like a red wine to be. I suggest you go for a good dry Riesling instead! Otherwise happy to recommend for your dinner in Bernkastel-Kues!

Old town station , next to the river .
What a great little place to sit in Bernkastle-Kues, and enjoy a drink and a bite. The veranda offers nice views of the river.
The staff was very helpful, and friendly. There's a reasonable beer and wine list, along with some excellent food selections. We were fortunate to go when they had their seasonal Zwiebelküchen available. It was more like a quiche, and was absolutely delicious.

Cafe Thiesen serves up very good traditional German dishes. We both started with their version of French onion soup (okay, not everything is German!) which was quite good. We then moved on to the traditional Wiener Schnitzel. The portion was quite large, the breading good but not as crispy as we would have liked and served with very good German-style roasted potatoes. There's plenty of wine by the glass to choose from and the prices quite cheap. The room is not as attractive as other restaurants in the area but still comfortable. The service was excellent (and menus are available in English).

Absolutely wonderful old structure dating from the 15th century. About 5 feet wide, couple of tables downstairs. Stationed in Lahr Schwarzwald in the 60s/70s, and re-visited here with close friends this year, great to sit & sample some local wines, and to leave with an excellent bottle of your choice. Mother & son business now, in the family for many many years. I still believe that Germany produces the finest white wines in the world.
We were unaware that food plates were available, but we enjoyed the uniqueness of this tiny weinstube, sitting by the window. Just off left of the Fountain in the square. Not to be missed when in Bernkastel-Kues

There is a sign outside "Best coffee in Germany" and we agreed. The croissant was perfect, perhaps my best ever. The ambience and décor were quiet and elegant - it felt a little Parisian. The service was genteel and kind. There were an amazing array of cakes in the window. We'd have loved to come back at cake time.
Beautiful cake and coffee stop, on a delightful old square. Highly recommended

Ate here on a Sunday evening and it was very crowded. Clearly a popular place with the locals (there were few tourists, allways a good sign), and we quickly understood why. Service at the start was very good, and we quickly has popadums and condiments and the nan we had ordered with raita. All very tasty. The main courses were also very good.
At the end of the evening service became a bit spotty and it was dificult to get the attention of the servers. A pice of advice - do not drink coffee here, it was horrible!!
