What a magnificent structure! Such a beautiful way to glimpse the past and such a symbol of how things were made over 150 years ago. It's a pity that it hasn't been restored but on the other hand it remains a strong piece as a legacy. I think it is one of our trip's highlights.

Stocking local produce and a wide range of souvenirs, Gundagai Visitor Information Centre is located on the left hand side of the main street (Sheridan Street) as you come into town. The friendly staff can guide you to all the attractions Gundagai has to offer. Take the Heritage Walking Tour to capture the essence of this historic and fascinating township. Gundagai's best kept secret is Rusconi`s Marble Masterpiece on display at the Visitors Centre, 20,948 pieces of carved NSW marble taking 28 years to complete. This one man`s hobby has become a must see. Enquire at the counter for an audio tour of the old Gundagai Gaol, where Captain Moonlight the bushranger was sentenced and spent the night. In Carberry Park adjacent to the centre are the Dad, Dave, Mum and Mabel copper statues, wonderfully sculptured by Aurel Ragus. The visitor centre also books Greyhound and VLine and Trainlink coach and train services and sells cruise holidays, plus travel insurance.
The friendly woman at the information centre provided us with the information we were seeking about the local area. Paying $3.00 (Senior discount) was worthwhile to see Rusconi's Marble Masterpiece and listen to the background story of Rusconi and his 28 year undertaking. Crossing the road to see the Dad and Dave bronzes in the park completed the visit.

Two places in Gundagai, with amazing photos and artefacts of the past. Would not have missed either. Can't recall name of other location on first floor in main street (ask information centre). This Museum has very interesting and extensive exhibition.

We visited too early to get inside on the action but took some photos and saw what we could. The area is family friendly and next time hope it is open when we visit. My fiance has a fascination for trains and train stations.

The stunning sculpture of these two heros and their story are so compelling that you will kick yourself if you miss this. The sculpture itself is beautiful and depicts two local aboriginal men that saved dozens and dozens of locals from dying during the worst flood disaster in Australian History. The story is one of reconciliation and heroism that can't be beaten. A Must See.

This Gaol may be small but it is worth going to the information office, getting the listening headset and taking yourself through.
The buildings date back to the late 1800's and have seen some interesting inmates. Most were short term but some of Australia's notorious bush rangers such as Captain Starlight was held here for a short period.
I enjoyed the self tour and the original buildings.

The ANZAC Grove war memorial in Gundagai is located next to the local football field behind a beautiful set of gates. It is a quiet parkland, full of trees, and features a classic obelisk style memorial in the middle, along with the Walk of Honour featuring plaques of around 400 names. There is also a Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun nearby. When we visited, white cockatoos were playing overhead, bringing a certain magic to the place. If you appreciate war memorials, or have family connections in Gundagai, or just want somewhere peaceful to appreciate being alive on a beautiful day, I highly recommend spending some time here.
