Heard the bells played on Sunday morning. Wonderful performance in an otherwise quiet pedtrianised square. I gather there are 62 bells rung from keyboards and (presumably) a pedalboard, so sophisticated music can be played. Totally different from English bell ringing. If you are there at the right time pay a visit.

We happened to meet two municipal gardeners in the centre of Tourcoing, looking after an innovative pop-up garden. They told us enthusiastically to visit the botanical Gardens. So we did.
The Gardens were closed to prepare for a big weekend. But, seeing our disappointment, one of the staff opened the locked gates for us. We were delighted!
The greenhouses contain exotic specimens and large collections, clearly labelled, and in wonderful condition. A joy to behold. A gardener's dream.
The staff are happy, knowledgeable and helpful and made us feel welcome, even though we should not have been there and they were busy preparing for the next day.
This is a piece of paradise. It will please you, delight you and be an oasis of loveliness.
Do not miss it!

I wanted to see the painting "The End of Dinner" by Jules-Alexandre Grün:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jules-Alexandre_Gr%C3%BCn#mediaviewer/Datei:Gr%C3%BCn_-_The_End_of_Dinner.jpg
It was not on display. That might have been ok. But not the explanation: "The painting is not good enough."
So you would expect great paintings instead. But the museum has not much to offer. The exhibition "Ornement et obsession" was nice. But the rest: Nothing special. Not to compare with Lille. Ok, Lille is a much bigger city. But even the museum of Tournai is better, for half the price.
My problem is: This museum doesn't have great resources. But still they leave their few treasures in store. This seems a little bit arrogant to me. There are museums in the world who can afford some arrogance. Tourcoing cannot afford it.
My advice: Better go to Lille or Tournai.
