Wilhelmshaven (meaning William's Harbour; German pronunciation: [vɪlhɛlmsˈhaːfn̩]) is a coastal town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the western side of the Jade Bight, a bay of the North Sea. Wilhelmshaven is the centre of the "JadeBay" business region (which has around 330,000 inhabitants).

There are 2 parts to this museum: an indoor educational presentation and an outdoor collection of exhibits, including warships and a submarine one can walk and clamber through. The museum presentation was interesting because it explained why Germany (since its creation in 1870) and the pre-1870 German states were so slow to acquire a navy. I sad exhibit is a 1944 era midget submarine - these were a last ditch attempt to hold off Allied navies and many simply disappeared - as this one had, until it was rediscovered, raised and put in the museum.

Food and drink, the Navy Museum, Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge... yes, all very nostalgic, but for a nice swim you have to be lucky. I remember nights in the heat of summer, when the North Sea had 26 degrees C! Still every time worth a visit.

This place is just the business. Did a show there with a cappella group 'The Magnets' (Sixth time we've been there...) Such a characterful venue, with exceptionally helpful and friendly crew, and the manager is one of the nicest people I've met in a long time. If you get the chance, give the place a try, they always feature great acts!

Wilhelmshaven’s Aquarium is small and not exactly cheap, but it’s still a cute little aquarium that’s fun to check out. There isn’t much information, and it’s in German, but still worth it to see the interesting fish, seals and penguins. There’s also a small terrestrial section, which I’ve never seen in an aquarium.

We spent a couple of hours learning about the city and surroundings, looking at art, wonderful collections, listened, read and viewed the most interesting exhibits. A nice selections of post cards and gifts to puchase rounded off our visit.

This is not a site to commemorate war, but to raise awareness of the terrors that civil population suffer. 99% of this live museum is intact from those days where 1200 civilians looked for shelter during the 6 days of nightly bombings by the US and GB armed forces. More important as 80% of Wilhelmshaven town was destroyed during the war. Civilians were, without doubt a target and here you can see. Feel and sense what several thousands had to go through to survive.
I much recommend this place as no war artefacts are exposed. Only survival. Very touching and the people running the place get engaged not to forget was is not written in the history books.
Enjoy

The lovely little island has real charm, you can only arrive by ferry or plane and there are no cars. You can hire a bicycle or just walk, which is fine, the island is small and you can reach all within an hour or two. The island has a touch of Lilliput you feel a bit like Gulliver on his travels to the unknown. The nature park is amazing, everything is pretty and maintained beautifully. The small village is picturesque and has a few shops and restaurants, the walks along the beach and through the Islands are just lovely. I enjoyed the stay very much.
